Am I the only one who wants to cry after doing leg day for the first time?

Today was my first time trying it and it sucked balls. Is your first time supposed to feel this bad? I can barely walk.

And gosh why does this sound like a bad pun? lol

    It gets better, promise!
(And gentle exercise through the DOMS. It'll help. Really.)

Just keep doing it.. your body will adapt and soreness will go down with time. My leg days are split into the week so it is not as bad. Or maybe it's so bad I just got used to it! :p

You probably pushed too hard, take it easier weight-wise at first, make sure you have the correct posture. Then you increase the weight every time. A certain level of pain/soreness is normal (I personally love feeling sore after a good workout), but it shouldn't hurt ridiculously hard.

    DOMS makes me feel alive.

Then I'm 6ft under. I don't get doms (my husband gets no sympathy in our house... He just gets his quads poked instead :p)

OP - I think keeping moving should help, and rolling, and magnesium (taken, bathed in, applied externally).... And it should get easier!

Lol. I'm sure you don't take as many breaks as I do either. DOMS reminds me that break wasn't a good idea :p

I don't get DOMS very often but remember how sore I was after my first day of working out. Ouch indeed.

In general, as frequency goes up DOMS goes down. Right now I get it when I do a new exercise. I started snatch grip deadlifts on Sunday and have been feeling it since then.

You did too much for your first time. Dial it back a little for your next workout, then gradually increase your effort. Believe me, you'll enjoy being able to work out and walk afterwards.

In my experience, every time feels bad.
    I cry every time.

I was almost crying last weekend after 3 days being tortured by my PT in both one-to-one sessions and classes followed by deadlift day. Seriously I love getting DOMS because it means I've pushed myself/been pushed extra hard and I'll see some improvement in some aspect of my fitness. (It takes a lot for me to get DOMS now, especially in my legs)

DOMs is normal, but you also want to ease into things...it gets better, but I'm almost always a little sore but functional.

Everybody has different feelings about DOMS, so you can make your own choices. Physiologically, some soreness may be inevitable at times, but it is neither necessary nor always positive result. Most beginners would be better served if they took 3-6 sessions to ramp up to a full workout, rather than trying to do it on day 1. They would see results just as quickly, likely learn better form, and wouldn't hurt nearly as much.

You will adapt and accept the pain as a normal part of your life... eventually you will wonder what you have been doing wrong because it doesn't hurt... of course... the first is the worst... a personal reminder of what you will be in for if you combine too many rest days in a row ( no more than 3... unless injured or sick) ... I switched up my routine yesterday because I tweaked my back... deloaded by 40 lbs... but added 3 reps and one set... 6x8...on my squats and I definitely feel the effort today...

Eventually you will welcome the pain.

Talk about DOMS! I went hiking all day sat and I still have sore legs on Tues!

I echo advice above: keep moving. Walk, cycle, swim, etc. Get a quad massager. Apply hot and cold. Ibuprofen can also help.
