What are the benefits of weight lifting while losing weight? Should I be lifting weights & what reasons why I should be? I'm currently 39lbs down & I only incorporated cardio about 2 weeks ago.

The purpose of lifting weights as you lose weight is to preserve muscle. Otherwise, you will lose muscle along with fat and not change your overall body composition (not actually lower your bf%).

I just started lifting, and I'm gradually adding some definition to my body. I feel stronger and I think I look better. I have biceps!

Congrats on adding cardio! I think the weight lifting I'm doing has helped me power through some of my cardio workouts, and my cardio workouts have increased my stamina for lifting.

Muscle retention...get stronger...bone density, etc. Also, weight loss aside, it's just pretty essential to overall fitness...not necessarily weight lifting, but resistance training of some kind.

Muscle mass is an expensive, use it or lose it commodity...if you're not using them you will lose them and in a deficit, you will lose more muscle mass than otherwise if you're not doing some kind of resistance training.

Thank you. It's taken some time and work but I'm really starting to see results now. And not a faddy diet in sight.
