Negative adjustments

Hi all,

I did 17000 steps today and I'm getting over 1000 exercise calories. Is this because of negative adjustments and should i turn them off?? I'm not eating them but seems mfp has gone mad since I linked my gear fit 2.

Many thanks

No, it's because you're more active than you indicated with your activity level. Negative adjustments would go the other way...ie you are less active than you indicated thus less calories.

Thanks for answering. Should I change my activity level?? Today was a rest day so my 17000 steps was just from walking the dog twice.

I'm not familiar with gear fit 2 but can tell you that some of the trackers track and then you enter what you saw on the machine (obviously not walking) it counts double. There is a Setting for that though.

I haven't added any exercise into mfp it's just picking up from my tracker.

Did you go about 4 miles each time? Because 4 miles is somewhere in the 8-9000 steps range for me.

But yes, if 17,000 steps is normal, and you get big adjustments, your activity level setting should be higher....or you can eat the adjusted amount. Same result essentially. If you set your activity level high, high initial calorie setting will be higher and you adjustments would be smaller. It should be close to the same in the end....

    Hope that helps.

I prefer to keep my activity level to the lowest as this calorie allowance gives me my normal 3 meals a day. My afternoon meal size will correspond to how many steps I have taken that day which varies considerably. If I know it will be a big calorie burn day I also add extra calories with breakfast and lunch.

You really just have to find what works best for you as we all have differences in preferences and what works best for us.

I also leave my activity level at sedentary and them take advantage of some, not all, of the extra calories my steps give me. It's more incentive to me to earn them than to have them already counted in and know I still have to do them.

Negative adjustments means you'll get calories taken away if you are not as active as you stated in the set up. I get 13-15k steps everyday, but i have mfp set to sedentary because i go to bed early, plus i turn into a sloth from around 6pm onwards, so from that moment on my extra credited exercise calories start dwindling down at a depressing pace (if set higher than sedentary)! As it is, i lose around 60 calories from bedtime to midnight every night.

Whatever activity level you choose, mfp expects you to keep up that pace til midnight, so for me, i have 6+ hours of very little movement every night, so setting myself at anything above sedentary is pointless.
