Bingings The Only Time Im Losing Weight

I've been tracking on a different app (livestrong) since july 17th. I was eating around 1700 calories a day and burning 300-450 a day with cardio and weight lifting. I weigh all my food, and I dont eat any exercise calories back. I didn't lose any weigh on that, in fact I gained. Every time I binged this week I wound up losing weight (and alot of it) the next day. What the heck is going on?

normal weight fluctuations...what you eat one day doesn't necessarily show up on the scale the next day....5

Tighten up your logging. "Around" 1700 a day is too vague.
I sometimes lose after a big meal too. I have no explanation other than maybe I was under-eating for many days before that...(?) I have no idea. It's not a good practice to get into, I know that much.3 -
LMAO. You actually binged?
Maybe, I have a different definition of binge.
Anyway, it could depend on what your stats are.
If you're a healthy muscular person, it may take a while to move the scale.
...and it's just been 7 days3 -
If part of the binge was alcohol you might be dehydrated. I've heard many on here say they dropped weight when they drank but it tends to come back.2

Define "binge".
Are you consuming, say, 6000+ calories in a binge, eating what you can find, or just eating more than you usually do?
You say you're eating 1700 and burning 350-400. How are you determining those burns? How much weight do you have to lose?
I'm guessing cortisol had a part in this.4 -

Yeah, losing this last 20 pounds has been alot different from losing the first 20. Also, Ive been logging for a very long time (more than 10 days), but this is my first time on this amount of calories. I didn't expect to gain weight.0 -

I use a watch and heart rate monitor strap. As for my binges, they're binges to me, I think thats subjective. Theyre definitely more than 1000 calories usually.0 -

Im under 1696 a day to be exact unless I of course I binge0 -
Could be raising leptin levels if your binges are not that much over maintenance and mostly carbs but I'm surprised the glycogen wouldn't hide the fat loss right away. idk. keep binging if it's working! lol2

I have no idea how to edit a post but I just read it over again, and I didn't mean that I've been logging for like 3 days. Its been wayyyy longer than that (months). I was previously eating 1300 and hit the wall and then figured all the exercise and eating that low wasnt the best for my body. Then, I upped it to 2000 (plus exercise) and I was still losing. Now, I lowered it again and Im gaining.0

No alcohol for me, haha! but maybe dehydration0 -
if you upped to 2000 and were still losing but stopped losing at 1700, it may be that 1700 is too low for your body needs. that fact that you lost after the binges seems like evidence that your body needs are closer to the 2000 mark. listen to your body. it is telling you something. in this case, it sounds like it is telling you it needs more fuel.8

If you were losing at 2000 but gaining at 1700, it sounds like your body needs are no longer being met. Your caloric need seems to be closer to 2000 right now. Listen to your body, it is telling you that you need more fuel.7 -
Your body doesn't respond immediately to changes in intake or exercise; the amount of weight you lose or gain today doesn't necessarily correlate to what you did yesterday. You need to look at trends over time. If, in the last 4-8 weeks, you see a downward trend, you are in a net deficit and are losing weight, regardless of individual spikes or dips on the scale. (Same thing with an upward trend, which means you are in a net surplus).3

this doesn't add up. if you were losing on 2000 plus exercise, you would lose (more) on 1700 - not gain. sounds like some definite issues with logging/weighing your intake.3 -

I would assume not considering I use a scale for everything and I lost weight before but the only thing I can think of that changed was definitely my macros I was high carb & low protien for the 2000 and getting very very hungry every two hours and now I switched to higher protien and lowered my carbs and I never really get hungry at all now and I use alot of sodium filled things2 -
Sounds like random fluctuation to me. Never draw conclusions based on less than three or four weeks of consistent logging. You need to give it more time.0
