yes. Once for cardio or HIIT, and go back again later that day for weights. I used to three times. Cardio/Calisthenics for PT in the morning, weights during lunch break, and cardio again after work (always same 5 mile trail run). The hallway that I worked in was getting into trouble for some people not making good scores on their fitness test, so every office in the hallway was assigned an extra run session after work.

Not really...I have a two-a-day on Thursday...riding AM and lifting PM, but that's really about it. More isn't always better. Rest and recovery are just as important to your fitness as doing the work.

Also, this is how a lot of people just fizzle out and burn out. Developing healthy lifetime habits is where it's at. When I first really got into fitness I was all gung ho about doing all of the exercise all of the time...eventually ended up with some over-training issues and had to back off...five years later I'm much more balanced and reasonable in regards to my fitness...this is a lifetime thing for me and you can't go 100 mph forever.

    Good point!!

Not usually. I don't typically have the gas for 2 meaningful, productive sessions in a given day. Heck, sometimes I can't do it on consecutive days!

Just to add to this, I usually do at least one if not two cycling events annually...in those cases I do train more than when I'm just exercising for my fitness and general health...but it's limited to a couple of months or so. I don't train like I'm going to ride a century on any given weekend year around. I've also learned that when I'm training specifically for an event, I need to back off from other things.

When I had my over-train issues about 4.5-5 years ago, I was doing Starting Strength, training for a sprint triathlon, and racing cyclocross all at the same time...end result wasn't pretty and all of the effort I put in for my sprint was a waste because I ended up laid up two weeks before the event and pretty much out of commission for about 12 weeks...on the plus side, that was when I fell in love with my bike...so there was a silver lining.

From a cyclers point of view is the sit down bike the worst machine in the gym? I heard someone say once "don't waste your time on that"

I will occasionally swim in the morning and do another workout in the evening, but it is rare these days. Like cwolfman13 said, training for a specific event may warrant it. When I was training for my first sprint triathlon, I did a lot of doubles. I did the specific triathlon training in the morning and strength training in the afternoon. I didn't want to stop the work I had done in strength training and I was terrified I wasn't going to finish the tri without the training. As soon as the tri was over....it all stopped and I haven't done doubles to that extent since.

True I suppose I can do little exercises at home to warm up so I dont over do it and burn out :)

Honestly couldn't say...the only stationary bike I've ridden for a workout is a spin bike or my road bike on my indoor trainer...other than that I use a recumbent bike sometimes to get a little warmed up before I lift and just get the blood flowing after sitting at my desk all day.

I don't go to the gym twice, but I'm active more than once most days. Today it was tennis in the morning, strength training shortly, then cycling in the late aft/early evening. Thank you early retirement.

Nope... I don't have the Metrocard fare for that. It's an hour trip to the gym.

I live in fear of an injury that prevents all workouts for an extended period. I just go for one workout a day and often take the weekend off mostly due to other events getting in the way.

Hmm. I wonder if age factors in here. I can't push it the way I used to without risking injury. In the same vein, I'm more likely to do lower weights with high reps at the gym than I am high weights low reps.

Most of the time I go once a day and work my tail off. Some days stress tries to get the better of me. I've changed so much as a person I'd rather go back to the gym and do it all over again than sit in front of the the tv with chips and ice cream. Only time it really wore me down was when I went 10am then 9pm then 9am the next day. It was 24 elliptical miles in 24 hours. Took me a day to recover! Lol

Maybe if you want to do something more, do something gentle like yoga or a long walk.

^^^This is a good idea too...I like yoga and walking on my rest days as well.

and make time for "play" which can be good exercise as well. Most Saturday's I'll go for a bit longer ride than my weekday rides and then later in the afternoon we often hit the climbing gym as a family which is good exercise, and lots of playing...

I do my hard workout in the morning when energy is high and my stress relief workout after work, usually 45 min moderate cardio. Keeps me from stress eating.

I very often do two workouts a day, they just aren't necessarily in the gym. I'll do a video in the morning, then hit the gym for weight lifting after work, or go for a run. Since it's summer, I add in lap swim once or twice per week, no runs(too hot).

I'll often work out at home in the morning and hit the gym on my way home, for 20 - 30 minutes max.

I normally ride a bike outside in the morning for an hour everyday and then I go to the gym after dinner every night for an hour. There is no limit to how many times a day you can work out. If you got energy and want to do more then go for it!! B)
