My gym is closed for all holidays and other random times, as well as weekends. You've got to find a way to work around it. I have dumbbells, a treadmill, a mat, a rebounder, and lots of videos at home. Or, you can go outside for a run or walk.

Always good to have some sort of home based activity for times you can't make it to the gym.

I try to plan my rest days to coincide with holidays. Rest days are good too.

When my gym is closed for a holiday I just enjoy the extra rest day. I work hard enough that the occasional three day test weekend is a benefit.

Get a kettlebell and do 100-200 swings. I do it as HIIT with 25-30 swings and a rest. This will kick the crap out of most people.

But that DOESN'T mean you CAN'T exercise. There is so much you can do besides just lifting weights or aerobics classes.

My pool is closed for 2 1/2 weeks in Aug for maintenance. Every Y I've ever been to does this. I appreciate the need for maintenance but the long closure is always frustrating. That's long enough to lose a bit of progress. Yes I will still do other things.

    This one?

The Civic Holiday serves to fill a holiday gap between Canada Day on July 1st and Labour Day on the first Monday of September. Depending on the Canadian province and city, the Civic Holiday is both named and celebrated differently. Although names and celebrations may differ, Civic Holidays around Canada are celebrated on the first Monday of August.

Cool. I'd say be happy for the employees of your gym!

My gym is downtown in a business district, so is closed every Sunday. I usually do my long run on Sundays (not because my gym is closed, I usually run outside and use my gym for weights).

Is this just about a meaningless streak or getting in a workout when our gym is closed. If the former, so what? Start a new streak and get over it.

If the latter, do a body weight routine at home or the park.

Warm up as you would at the gym: Then 60 seconds on 30 seconds off:

    6 count burpees, with a push up and a jump;
    walking lunges
    chair dips
    body weight squats
    pushups
    half mile run.

Do as many sets as you want. Enjoy
If you have dumbbells at home throw in some curls and rows.

Dancing is still a viable option. ;)

So there is actually a holiday for the sole purpose of making there be a holiday in August?
