Has anyone tried this? I just night to see how it works.

Apple cider vinegar (in either pill or liquid form) is an effective weight loss supplement when integrated into a nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle.

Apple cider vinegar is a substance that has been used for many years as a home remedy for many different problems such as stomach flu, high cholesterol, sore throats, joint pain and sinus infections. But one of the most touted benefits that apple cider vinegar brings to the table is weight loss. One of the ways it helps out in this department is with control of hunger cravings. As recommended by Dr. D.C Jarvis, 1 to 2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar should be taken with water right before a meal. This helps to reduce appetite because of a fiber compound found in the vinegar called pectin. This substance mixes with the water and expands in the stomach, which causes appetite to be decreased.

Retention
When the body retains water, weight naturally goes up. This can be a side effect of having too much sodium in the diet. Apple cider vinegar has a high amount of potassium in it. When taking apple cider vinegar, the potassium helps to flush the sodium content out of the body. This in turn can lead to less retained water and a loss of weight.

Metabolism
Every single daily process that your body goes under has to do with metabolism. This includes sleeping, breathing, reading, working out and even digesting food. Metabolism is the rate at which your body utilizes calories to form energy and perform all of these duties. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid. When acetic acid comes in contact with foods, it helps promote the absorption of iron. A high iron absorption leads to a high oxygen utilization, which ends up raising the metabolic rate. When the metabolic rate is high, a lot of calories are burned, which causes weight loss.

Well Being
There are a lot of people who are emotional eaters and they overindulge when they are faced with stressful situations. Another way apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss is through the release of proteins during the digestive process. Tryptophan is a key amino acid that is released through this process and it is in turn responsible for the release of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter and natural tranquilizer. When serotonin is produced, the body is less likely to feel stress, which can lead to overeating.

Elimination
Of the three macronutrients, fats are the most calorie dense, weighing in at 9 calories per gram. Apple cider vinegar helps reduce the transit time of fats in the stomach because it improves digestion. This in turn leads to weight loss as less fat can be absorbed by the body.

Actually, I've just started doing this recently! I'm a member of Quick Weight Loss centers and have lost 32 lbs since late February. This may be a little too much info but when I'm having irregular bathroom issues (ahem....) the apple cider vinegar really helps get things moving, if you get my drift. I've also weighed in (especially if I've eaten out) and the scale will say that I've gained 3 lbs in a day! There's no possible way that can happen- it's just my body holding on to water because resaurants usually use a lot of sodium in their marinades/seasoning. Whenever this happens or whenever I'm feeling constipated, I take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Sometimes I sprinkle it on top of my salad as the dressing and sometimes I just drink it straight. I shoot down practically a whole bottle of water afterwards....which helps with my water intake. I'm telling you- the weight will be gone the next day. The staff at Quick Weight Loss told me this is an apple cider vinegar flush. I'm not gonna lie- it's HORRIBLE and burns your throat if you shoot it straight back. But it works and I only do it about once a week. Hope this helps!

I just posted something similar about a week ago. I did some reading and turns out there's ZERO proof it does anything for weight loss. If anything, it's just acidic and tough on teeth.

But...and this is going to sound weird...I actually *like* the taste when it's mixed with water and honey with a little cayenne. ;D

I tried it for a while and then stopped - not sure if it worked at all and why I stopped but beside weight loss I think I like how it works with the other parts of the body.....I'm going to begin on Monday for 30 day to see what happens - but I did read that NOT to use the distilled ACV that you find in the supermarkests - I purchased my at a healthfood store and it has this thing called mother(?) something - I forgot the whole name - but thanks for reminding me about this

I love it that way too! I have it instead of tea in the winter, and I usually add a bit of cinnamon too. I don't think it's a good idea to drink it straight since, as someone mentioned, it can burn the tissues of your esophagus. Mixed with water, hot or cold, is much safer.

Sounds like a good potassium supplement, but that's about it.

Pectin is just a fruit-based thickening agent used in jams and what not. Not fibrous at all.

There is no reason to believe that ingesting acids improves iron absorbtion. Just sounds ilke bad chemistry.

Might be a tasty food additive and potassium supplement, but don't think for a second that its a magic weight loss pill.

I was thinking more of a way to lose some water weight. I completely agree that there isn't any miracle drug out there that will help you SAFELY lose weight.

I don't believe it helps you lose weight but I LOOOOOOOOOOVE vinegar, especially Bragg's Vinegar. I like to swig a shot of it, pour it on salads and I even use it on my hair and skin!

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I needed a refresher on the benefits. I take it occasionally, but I think I'll make it a part of my daily regime.

    I think it's BS.

Show me a real report saying that it aids in weight loss, please.

I took it for a few months and didn't notice a difference. I stopped taking it after reading about how it can actually be detrimental to your health.

I also stopped taking it when I read the negative effects of drinking it daily. But it's great on salad and in foods. :)
  • Ok because of this post I bought some and tried my first serving of it. Looking forward to any positive results. Thank you.

Well . . . maybe. Depends on the reasons you need to lose weight.

I had chronic yeast in the gut for several years and could never get rid of it until I did an ACV regime for 2 weeks. I took 2T. ACV 3x/day (and let me tell you that is a feat in itself bc that stuff tastes HORRIBLE).

The ACV did dramatically decrease my cravings for sweets and since I completed the course (abut 6 mos ago), my digestion has been improved and I am no longer experiencing painful bloating after eating -- however, during the time I was using it I did not experience any weight loss.

If you have huge sugar cravings that perhaps cause you to overeat sugar, which in turn has resulted in weight gain for you, perhaps ACV will be useful in that it may reduce your sugar craving.

I think, in my situation, it was not excessive sugar that had caused me to gain weight, it was in fact eating too few calories for a long period of time that had caused my problem. Once I started eating the correct amount of calories (many more)! I was able to lose my weight.

    blessings.

    It's a fad.

Apples (and other fruits) have pectin too, and they're a lot cheaper.

Have some on your salad or whatever if you like the taste, but don't fall into thinking you need it for weight loss.

I take a teaspoon full of cider vinegar in a bottle of 500ml water everyday for a different health condition. It helps with water retention and ive found a side effect is it can act as a natural appetite suppressant but this isnt what i take it for. Also it makes my skin peachy - it really helps. I sometimes take a teaspoon in apple juice with some honey in the winter. I would make sure you don't take too much as it can give you a stomach ulcer if its too concentrated and it can ruin the enamel on your teeth. I make sure its well diluted and it has been very helpful managing other health conditions.

I started this last night. I'm going to do it once a day before dinner (since that seems to be the time that I over eat)

I took 2teaspoons with 2 teaspoons of water and did a big shot. It tasted gross, but I think it worked for me. I only had one helping of dinner along with a salad and was full afterwards. To be honest, I almost felt a little nauseous looking at other food.

Well, I think I'll keep this up for a week and see how I feel. I also have GI problems and hope this helps with my digestive system and water retention :)

I don't have any scientific evidence or otherwise and I hardly think this is a new fad. I remember my grandmother taking ACV every morning and she said it kept her 'healthy.' We also grew up having cucumbers and tomatoes on the dinner table (right out of the garden) every nightin the summers in a bowl with ACV. I still do this with my family....not everyday, but YUM!!

As someone else said, make sure you get the unfiltered unpasteurized stuff. It has "mother" in it which is actually what produced the vinegar. A bottle looks like it has been sitting on the shelf for years on end because the mother is murky and dark, it sits in the bottom of the bottle so make sure to shake it up before you pour it.

I haven't ever become a regular user of it, but I will tell you.. It repels ticks big time. My family went on a hours long walk at an abandoned farm one day, everyone else had ticks attached to them. But when I got home I took a shot glass full of ACV and hopped into the shower, the crawlies were falling off. It works for dogs too.
