So I see a lot of people on here panic when they go over on calories! Which I really really really don't understand.
So you went 500 calories over on one day? What's the big deal? In the big picture of things, say you plan on losing 1 pound a week. Oh noes! You'll have to diet FOR ONE MORE DAY. OH. THE. HUMANITY.
Seriously guys. Is ANYONE on MFP on THAT rigorous of a weight loss plan?
Everyone wants to lose weight the healthy way. You know what's not healthy? STRESSING OVER IT. There are much more complicated factors that go into whether you lose your weight or not, and in the long run a day here and a day there are NOT going to ruin your life.

Thanks for the reminder. I have a bad habit of stressing over my weight loss....I think its somewhat normal though to stress about it.0

Within reason, totally true. I was reading this article that said stressing about eating a doughnut had almost the same effect on the body as actually eating the doughnut. Because of the stress the brain released cortisol (sp?) which slows your metabolism. You're totally better off eating one doughnut and then working out alittle bit harder.
I guess it's more just the slippery slope. Going over calories can be mentally difficult to come back from, which leads to more days being over calories and ultimately more weight gain. At least I know that is true for me.0 -
I slowly came to this realisation as well. I found that even when I went over by quite a bit for one day since I almost never eat precisely up to my calorie goal (which is lower anyway since I want to lose 2lbs a week), when I looked at my weekly intake, I was still OK which is a huge relief.
Thanks for the reminder though and those people that go nuts if they go over by 50 calories should really look at their total weekly calorie intake!!0 -
Its over 9000saaaaand xD!
I've stopped the whole calorie counting thing for a week now, it made me crazy and now I don't eat unhealthy stuff anymore just because "i have still 500 calories left" or whatever...0 -
Its actually good going over your calories on occasion. There's a diet that suggests it (zig zag diet). I try not to worry about it... Heck, I was over by a good 400 yesterday. I'm sure it was more! But that steak was so darn good! And the warm fresh roll with sweet butter... I'm not passing up a good birthday dinner!! LOL
And totally agree on the stressing... Just like when you're trying to get pregnant - if you think about it too much, it ain't gonna happen!
And as someone else said - weight loss is just a consequence of being healthy... I love awesome consequences like that!0 -
Bumping for the DBZ reference.0
