Weekend with college friends - Help!

Will be spending the weekend with old college friends and there will be much eating and drinking and merriment. But! I don't want to do undo and sabotage the work I've been doing. I'm betting that going for a run while out of town is just not going to happen, and usually despite my best-laid plans, I tend to let my calorie count get away from me. What suggestions, tips and tricks do you have to keep on track and still have fun?

Portion control is your friend. You need to set some limits for yourself or accept a week potentially with no loss. It won't undo everything you've accomplished.2

This doesn't happen every week, and this, or something similar, is something you are going to have to learn to deal with long term.
Portion control is a good way to approach it, as is not eating anything that you are not enjoying. Honest, if it doesn't taste as good as you thought it would leave it.
Sharing is also a great thing when you are out with friends. If there is something you really fancy, but know the cals are high, get someone to share.
For drinks, get the zero calorie mixer. I am a gin and 0 tonic woman and will quite often alternate g&t and plain 0 tonic.
Opt for a light beer during the day, or a good craft to start the night when your taste buds are still working, then switch to light.
Wine, get a spritzer. White wine and soda water, or my preference is white wine with ice. Get the wine served in a carafe and the glass filled with ice- slowly add wine.
Can you tell I have been maintaining a long time?
Go, have a blast, then make notes when you get back on what worked and what didn't.

Definitely if you've ordered something and its not delicious, don't waste the calories - desserts can often be really disappointing if they are just mass-market frozen ones with one slice defrosted for you! Same if your chips (fries) are soggy, or get cold because you are chatting, then leave them.
Another advocate of the G&T (or V&T) with slimline mixer - only 56 calories. Even the full calorie tonics are often not as high as having a coke of the same size.
But its only one weekend, and even if you don't exercise then, you can do extra in the week before and bank those exercise calories. Or do some extra the week after. But one weekend is not going to undo everything. (Two weeks all-inclusive I only put on 3lb and that was with beer and burgers on tap!!) And if you include going dancing one evening that's all good exercise!0 -
If this is not something you do often, which I assume it is not, I would not worry too much about it. Try to just be mindful and drink low calorie drinks. If you go into it overthinking it you will not enjoy yourself. The biggest key to all of this is not NOT FEEL GUILTY and Monday morning get back to your routine.
This will only sabotage you if you let it spill over to the coming weeks. Also, keep in perspective what it takes to actually gain weight. My guess is over a two day period for you to gain actual fat (not just water weight) you would need to consume roughly 4000 calories a day, which is a lot! Don't sweat it, enjoy the time with your friends and then get back to working hard. Goodluck!1 -
Thank you everyone for the support and ideas. The weekend was successful- fun without over doing it. Now its back to the routine!1

Thanks for the update.
Great to hear it was a fun weekend- just as it should be.
Also, now you know you can handle, events, special occasions, and celebrations, as well as daily living.
