Can someone explain what this means?

Even when you do everything "right," you may not lose what you expect to lose each week. There may be weeks where you don't see a weight loss or even when your weight will go up. The long term trend is what matters.

It means you aren't going to lose weight every day or every week...it's not a straight line progression. You will have weeks with bigger losses and smaller losses and no losses and gains, etc...

It means some days you'll weigh more! Some days you'll weigh less. You won't drop weight consistently forever. Maybe in the beginning? But not forever. When you start you may see the scale go down every day, but eventually due to environment or personal circumstances it'll go up...then down....

    ....then up....
    ..then down.

The idea is to look at the overall direction of the line in your weigh loss graph. As long as it's generally heading downwards all is good!

this is my weight loss chart since i started doing keto a month ago. notice how the line doesn't just go straight directly down from 175 to 165 lbs. some days i gained a bit, other days i lost. you just want to see an overall pattern of a downward trend.3fck1h3b96xn.png

You do not lose exactly what you expect to lose every week, and if you plot those weights on a graph they don't form a straight line (hence linear).
