Beautiful Behaviors -- August 2017

This thread will be for people who are focusing on creating a set of gorgeous habits that support a healthy lifestyle.
Weight loss is a byproduct, and not the focus. We will practice self-care by eating healthy foods, moving our bodies, drinking enough water, and other activities that make us FEEL GOOD without harmful effects.
For example, taking an hour with your current book on your favorite lounge chair is a great way to take care of yourself. Get a massage or facial, spend time with a friend, crafting… all good ways to make us feel good without the harmful effects of immediate gratification activities like overeating or indulging in other unhealthy activities. It’s all about taking care of ourselves and loving ourselves and making ourselves happy EVEN IF we are not at a weight we love right now.
Yes, we want to lose weight, but there’s more to life than that. Sometimes giving yourself a foot massage will keep you from the donut. Sometimes it won’t but you will still feel better.
This is a judgment free zone. Let’s support each other and leave the negativity offline. I’m tired of beating myself up about my size. I want to plan to do the best I can and not feel guilty about life getting in the way.
I’m a big believer in baby steps, and setting realistic goals, and celebrating every little success! No reason we can’t enjoy the journey to a healthier lifestyle, no reason we have to feel “wrong” because we are where we are.
If you like the way this sounds, please introduce yourself in this thread. Share whatever you like and come back often! I look forward to meeting people with similar attitudes towards life.

Hey! I spend a lot of time outdoors- I live in a beach community so I try and catch all of my runs there, catch sunrises and sunsets, and then I practice yoga. All of this has contributed to my well being immensely!19

Hi All,
Amy from Texas here. Hoping to get some much-desired reading done this weekend while my husband is out of town. I have a workbook I'd like to start making my way through, as well.
Only a few weeks until we leave for WA state...maybe a massage while we're gone? I don't know yet. Trying to be nice to myself, and not worry too much about what the calorie/weight/etc. situation will be while I'm away for almost a week. I have a few tactics in mind, but I'm mainly planning to let myself enjoy some fresh seafood and just enjoy being away from home for a while.

good morning, all! happy august!
i have been failing at even attempting this last week. i had weekend guests and used that as an excuse to buy delicious treats that i've been avoiding. now my guests are gone and the food remains, as they eat healthy as a habit. there's nothing really BAD in the house, but there are things that trigger me to overeat. i'll get rid of them today, one way or another. i'm trying to get john to eat them all.
i need to recommit. my knee is much better, although still painful, and i'm going to go back to the gym this weekend to do the bike and weights. i'm hoping going to the gym will inspire me to eat more consciously.
how are you all this beautiful morning?
later,

Hello. Just wanted to check in, since it's been a while. My sleep study is today. I am going through some personal issues (I will explain it at a later time). I have been maintaining and still struggle to get about 3 workouts in per week (used to be 6). Work has been so busy, but good. I see that everyone is still fighting the good fight, keep it up.
Thought of the day: There is no health without mental health. *I know this app is focused on fitness but mental well being is so important. This thread, I feel touches on this. Taking care of ourselves means knowing when to push ourselves and when to relax. Right now I have eased up on the strict eating and exercise because I'm dealing with other things. However, I also know that this is temporary and soon I will be back to kicking butt. It's like cleaning my room before going outside to play9 -
Hello everyone,
Looking to lose 50 lbs...I am a mom, a wife, and also a caregiver to my mom. Trying to lose weight and trying to schedule some me time has been a challenge... Hoping to be able to get my focus back. Looking forward to chatting with you all.11 -
well, i just got some beautiful news! my daughter's boyfriend called me to tell me he's going to propose to her! now i have a new motivation, to lose weight before my daughter's wedding. i won't be doing anything crazy, but i am definitely much more interested in being compliant with eating well and exercising regularly!16

Love this approach! I'm Kate, in the Seattle area, working on getting back on the wagon with healthy, happy habits that make me feel good and energized. I teach yoga, love spoiling my dog Skippy and playing outside. Working on getting back to using food as fuel instead of comfort, and slowly getting back to running after a year off due to some health issues. Hoping some online community will help keep me moving in the right direction!6

good morning! today is an exciting day for me. we're going to Lowe's to start work on our kitchen! i've been without one since the end of December, which has made it difficult for my weight loss efforts. i'm hoping it will be completed by October, and i will once again be able to bake, stirfry, etc etc. right now we're making do with a crock pot, a george foreman grill and a microwave.
it's also the first day i'm recommitting to tracking every bite. i'd like to lose 50 lbs between now and next august 1. wish me luck!11 -
I love your post! Last year this time, I was working out regularly and was down 18 pounds... this year, all 18 pounds are back and counting... feeling pretty desperate these days, fighting off that depression that says "give up". Glad to find some positive advice and outlooks! Looking forward to sharing this journey with you if you'll let me9

Honesty time. I am so sick today. But I managed 30 reps of exercise. And Mauroo cuddled with me. There's my day. I stayed within my calories. Now I'm going to bed. Love to all. Lea8
-
Lea, i hope you feel better soon!!!2
-
Feel better, Lea! (And is Mauroo a cat or dog?)0
-
Sorry to hear you feel sick Lea @aleahurst . I hope it gets better.
Feeling frustrated with the weight loss journey the last two weeks...not up or down much of anything. Just the same. I guess I shouldn't wish for mere movement; it might end up being in the direction I don't want it to be!
Oh well. Wish me luck. The husband is out of town and I'm on my own this weekend. Sometimes that means I kill it; sometimes it means I eat everything in sight. We shall see...
Congrats @jessiquoi on your daughter's engagement and your newfound enthusiasm! Maybe you could send a little my way?
And hi to all!

Hi everyone! I can't believe it's already august. I didn't post much in july. I have had tons of family in town and tons of work!
I have been inconsistent with my weight lifting unfortunately. But I have gotten on my elliptical a few times a week! I don't go for very long though because the one I have at home is super different from the nice Pre-Cor ones I used at school. My new college has them though, so I'll be glad to get on a machine I can use at a steady pace for an hour!
My new beautiful behavior this month has been learning to like peppers! Now I can't get enough! I buy the mini peppers and dip them in a tablespoon or so of hummus. Very satisfying at the end of the day!
@jessiquoi I hope your kitchen work goes well! Having that space to cook at home will definitely aid in your recommitment!
@happysherri "There is no health without mental health." This is a great thought. You always find ones that hit home with me as well. Sometimes my nutrition concerns take away a little of my enjoyment of family functions. At times I have to take a deep breath and remind myself that in the long run, I may actually be healthier mentally by enjoying what is there! Proper nutrition is hard to sustain when I am too strict. I should definitely remember to ease from time to time, even on the calorie counting. That is a challenge I will tackle today. I have the day off at home and have no car, so I'm not running around at work and burning calories. But I still plan to eat as much as I am hungry for, and rest today too!3 -

I never thought of it that way but I love your way with words. Congrats on your daughter's engagement and your new kitchen~4 -
Pedicures, yoga, getting your hair done, and woo hoo new kitchens! Lots of ways to feel good! And we are worth it. I bet all of us have enjoyed doing something special for someone we love. Have a wonderful weekend, everybody! (My family is here for the first time in a year from Tokyo, and I'm so grateful!)3

I am finally looking for ways to make me happy..not in a selfish way but in a renewal of soul and spirit way. Right!? Anyone relate?5

learning new piano songs in the key of G. It's a challenge, but that's how you learn.4

Today was quite overwhelming. I had a surprise inspector today so I had to juggle my other work while checking in and discussing our progress with her today. It all went well in the end, but I was not expecting her on a busy day such as today. They always manage to getcha at the best time don't they?
I'm also officially signed up for paralegal school! I've got my schedule FINALLY. I get interesting classes like civil litigation right away!
I'm also planning on relaxing this week and eating a few more treats that fit my calories.
Strong start to the week for everyone, I hope!4 -
My Name is Stephanie.i want to take care of my family by feeding them healthy and enjoyable meals. All of us are overweight. My husband had a heart attack July 2017.Special Needs daughter with many medical issues and do not need anymore. Needs help focusing on one day at a time. The best advise from a post here is Healthy is not a Goal but a Way of living. That is how I will start each day5
-
Hi I'm Kath from the uk looking to lose 30lbs, and really need to learn to put me first once in a while, have started to learn to play the piano, so that's my me time3
-
Nice to meet you two! @sjb050 @kathskelly53
Cooking at home is a great way to cut calories stephanie! My family and I try to make veggies a focus of our home cooked meals. It makes them filling and low calorie! (we cauliflower!)
And Kath piano is so fun! My sister is a piano teacher and just had a recital this past week. It is a wonderful skill to learn and watch! When I was learning to play piano I played out of a book called 'bean bag zoo' by catherine rollins. The songs aren't hard and are super cute! Really helped me with my note reading.
This week I have hopped on the elliptical or exercised after work almost every day! Even though I don't eat lunch till 3 pm sometimes, I strangely still feel like I have more energy for the rest of the evening when I get a session in right after work. I plan to clean and organize my kitchen tonight. Tommorow is my day off so I'm going to do some shopping! I'm going to encourage my beautiful behaviour of lifting weights at home by buying some 10lb dumbbells. I'm also going to grocery shop FINALLY! It's been two weeks since I've gotten to go because we had some financial oopsies lately (paid an extra bill too early - so there could be worse problems lol). It's been good though because we have 'eaten down' what we have here at home. The cupboard and fridge are empty and ready for me to fill it with healthy food! Hopefully making these healthy options available to the rest of my family and myself will encourage more good choices.

Hello everyone!!! I have been reading but not posting. We have posters from U K and Australia. Woooo! Way to go, Beautiful Behavior People!!!
Today, I did stuff for my mom. On one hand, I was giving, but it was good for my heart to have her hold my hand while she navigated the bumpy pathway to the car... I took her dog to the vet and he got three shots and a blood sample was taken. Ouch. So I drove through a fast food restaurant on the way home and ordered a single hamburger patty. He forgot the shots.
@katadx - paralegal school is great. There's a good career in that field. Congratulations!
@kathskelly53 - love it! Piano will definitely add a little color and music to your life! Way to go!
@sjb050 - That's so exciting! I am all about keeping the whole family healthy! Yeah.
@gothchiq - Yay! Another pianist! Wooo. I love music.

I'm laughing. If it was me getting naked... Every one else would be running in the other direction!
