I recently bought the arbonne vanilla protein mix and also the chocolate but am struggling to make a healthy and tasty smoothie from them as I absolutely HATE almond milk and coconut milk. Has anyone got any ideas for a healthy liquid to mix in? I'm adding different things into them like strawberries etc but I need to find a good base liquid. I'm considering just water but I don't know if that would sit right with fruit and protein powder. Any ideas?
Also I'm new here and if anyone wants to buddy up for motivation then let me know

I don't do protein powder, so this may not be of much use, but my smoothies are water and frozen banana based. Depending on the water to frozen banana ratio in your blender, you can end up with anything from an icecream consistency to almost milky.
I peel and cut up my bananas and put individual serves into freezer bags and there's always a fair few of them ready to go in my freezer.0 -
I make kefir, but when I can find Lifeway kefir at Wal-Mart, and I can, I'm pretty sure anyone can get kefir. My morning smoothie several days last week had 4 oz kefir, 1 oz hulled hemp, 1 oz frozen berries, 30 g PB2, 60 g kale and a frozen banana. That recipe had 30 g protein and 482 calories last Friday and served me well.0

I dont use protein powder...
1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of frozen cherries, either 1 packet of chocolate carnation or coco powder and agave, a handful of spinach, and a handful of ice. Blend for a couple of minutes....yummy0 -
Milk, or water
If you use water, you could add avocado/nut butter/frozen banana for a creamier texture0 -
How about some yogurt as a base?0
-
Nothing wrong with using cow's milk, in any of its forms (nonfat, 1%, 2%, whole). Unless, of course, you can't tolerate cow's milk.0
-
i use water as a base with greens and it works out fine!0

I generally do water and yogurt. Alot of people who like banana use that and water. Sometimes fruit juice is good too, but make sure you account for the calories. I love 100% cranberry, for the tartness.0
-
use regular milk or yoghurt.1
-
Cashew milk is my abrosia.1
-
When I make smoothies I use yogurt and bananas as the base. If it comes out to thick I will put just a tiny bit of water in it. But I don't add protein powder in mine.0
-
My fave is one frozen banana, some ice , one scoop chocolate protein powder and topped off with cold brew coffee as the liquid:)0
-
My current favorite:
- 70 grams frozen fruit (I use mixed berries since they're low in sugar, but you could use whatever)
- 120 grams canned pumpkin (could sub for frozen banana if you want it sweeter, or you could use zucchini since they're in season)
- 120 grams spinach (or other leafy green -- spinach blends the easiest and has the least flavor)
- 1 cup of milk (try cashew or flax milk if you don't like almond and coconut. There's also a really awesome pea-based milk called Ripple a valuable at Target that has 8 grams of protein per cup)
- 1 scoop protein (I use Raw Fit, but use what you have in hand)
- Spices, to taste (cinnamon & maca powder are really yummy in smoothies. You could even add cocoa powder to make a chocolate smoothie if you want)
This is just a really basic outline as to how I make my nightly smoothie every night. I have this for dinner every night after I get off work, so I change it nightly to fit my tastes. Sometimes I even blend it up extra thick and too it with a crumbled up Quest Beyond Cereal bar and some Halo Top to make a kind of sundae bowl.0 -
We have used cow's milk, cashew milk (a bit sweet), made our own rice milk (so easy it's unreal, actually), and we have used juices if the blended well (like with an orange and banana smoothie, we added orange juice with a teeny bit of carrot juice added in). Water has worked out all right, but tends to dilute the flavors, so it works better if you have a strongly flavored mixture to begin with.
I have also made herbal teas and added them in. Like, we had a watermelon smoothie and added in mint tea as the liquid, with a little homemade watermelon juice and some yogurt. It was pretty darn good, actually.0 -
