Good evening fellow MFPs,

I guess i'm just looking for a bit of support and reassurance as I'm pretty new to MFP.

I have been following the MFP guidelines closely but for some reason my confidence is shaky. When I followed Rosemary Conley's low GI diet in 2008 i stuck to the diet plan and recipes like glue so I knew that i was doing everything correctly and consequently lost weight and achieved my goal weight with ease. Rosemary Conley's diet instilled confidence within me because all the recipes were carefully calculated and I didn't have to question anything.

At the moment, our kitchen is being renovated so I'm unable to cook. I'm buying sandwiches, chicken salad etc, basically, food that doesn't need to be cooked. Although I'm succeeding in staying in the green where my calories are concerned, I'm kind of convinced that i won't lose weight because my food choices are my own, and not food choices and recipes from a proper diet. It's like I don't trust the MFP system completely.

My questions is, am I being over-concerned? Will I still lose weight successfully if 'm factoring in a beer/alcoholic drink, or chocolate, or crisps etc in my daily diet as long as I'm staying within the calorie limits?

I look forward to hearing thoughts about this.

Thanks

Do you exercises? It's very important for your health and weight lose. I didn't see you log your exercises, so I'm asking.

I have lost 20 pounds using ONLY MFP. I don't have a heart rate monitor or a food scale and I estimate portions and calories a lot. You will be fine! Don't worry about it!

I would still recomend you eat low on the gi index. You could eat your calories in twinkies and lose weight, but that is not the point, you want to be eating good quality food to fuel your body. Chips are the same calories as a chicken breast but it fuels your body way differently. Just concentrate on good foods and use the recipies from the low GI diet as well.

Good tip. I'm looking forward to our new kitchen so I can start cooking again! I will feel in control again and will start the GI diet. It's the best!

I think you are definitely over concerned on your diet.

As long as you are tracking your calories, logging your excercise, and staying in the green, you WILL get to where you want to be. The fact of the matter is that you do not need a fancy diet program to loose weight, you just need self-control and dedication to sticking with it.

You'll be fine, like someone else said you're worrying too much. Trust in yourself, yes a beer or packet of crisps is fine if it's tweated into your calorie allowance!

PS I knew you were from the UK as soon as i read 'good evening' lol!

You will lose weight but you may plateau if you're not eating healthy enough. I am not on any specific diet, I just use MFP and I exercise at least 6 days a week in Insanity, Hip Hop Abs, Zumba, or whatever else I get my hands on. Exercise is very important. Also, try to stay in the first 2 tiers of Michi's Ladder as much as possible. Here is a link to the ladder if you're unfamiliar with it. Good luck!!

Lol about the British detection. Are the majority of MFP users from the USA?
