Muscle spasms... I could use some help.

Hi Everyone,

I'll try to shorten this as much as possible and still get the details in here. A couple of weeks ago it was my daughters bday and I wanted a piece of cake so I did an advanced circuit training video that really kicked my butt. The next day I had really bad chest pains that wouldn't stop (which is not normal for me at all) so I flipped out and went to the doctor thinking I was having a heart attack. I wasn't thank goodness but they felt that it was muscle inflammation from working out too hard. Ok, so they put me on an anti inflammatory and told me nothing but walking for a few days.

I was scared for a couple of days so I didn't exercise at all and then I did some walking and very mild jogging a few days in a row trying to make up for lost time. Well my right leg started hurting and I had some burning sensations. I put infrared heat on it and it felt a little better then someone suggested ice and it felt even better after that. I have no swelling, no discolorations but I still have mild pain in a few areas running up my right leg and crazy muscle spasms. It's been doing it for several days. I feel better when Im up moving around but when I sit down to relax I just keep having spasms in different parts of my leg. I don't think its serious but it is annoying and it does make me nervous. I've continued walking and today I did some stationary bike riding and the pain is getting better but I can't say the muscle spasms seem much better. Anyone else experienced this?

I don't have a medical background, so I can't help too much. But I did send this article to someone before - it focuses more on foot cramping, but I noticed that on the side there are additional discussions on leg cramping etc. Maybe there will be some additional info in there that might help you?

Hope it helps!! Hope you are feeling better soon!!

I have never experienced it, sorry. In my opinion - I would call your doctor and let them know what is going on.

Most likely it is nothing. Drink lots of water - for me h2o helps when i have pushed myself too hard. That said, I think you should check back in with your doctor to be safe. Your doctor should know how your feeling to be sure that it is not connected to your earlier symptoms. Best of luck!

It might seem simple but are you drinking enough water, and eating enough potasium? water really helps, but be careful before taking any supplemnts. On your food diet you can choose which nutrients to watch. try traking potassium for a while. Hope it goes away.

Potassium and water. Stock up on Great Northern Beans and Bananas (those are my personal choices that is). You are typically pretty good with water intake. Do you ever drink gatorade? I have found that when things don't feel right, and I'm drinking plenty of water, I may have an electrolyte imbalance. I have a gatorade on heavy workout days if I haven't loaded on potassium.
  • Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the replies. I checked out the foot cramping site and I've been thinking about salt and potassium. I don't drink gatorade but I might get some for just in case moments.

    Thanks again!!
