Haven't seen my mom in a couple of months, and we met for lunch today. She's wouldn't usually comment on anyone's appearance, good or bad. In the middle of a completely unrelated conversation, she said, "Your shape has really changed since we've been away. Your jawline, neck, and shoulders are all angles. And your arms are all... muscley!"
I'll take it!!
And she asked lots of question about the MFP app. Fingers crossed!33 -
I've been looking at some old pictures in my iPhone. You really don't realize how fat you are until you lose weight. I was in denial, oh my goodness. In my mind I was just a tab bit overweight, even though my BMI was in the obese range. I guess having such a high self-confidence the weight really didn't bother me. Any way so I tried on this midi cocktail dress I bought probably 8 years ago, and posted the photo on Facebook and the response has been so positive. I'm a very tough critic but even I had to admit I looked really good. Also I was at a professional networking event and my ex saw me and could not stop complimenting how good I looked. I've lost 26lbs but I don't feel like it's an achievement. I am very competitive, Type A personality, so no celebrating until I reach my target goal.27

At first, all the time. Then about once a week. Now they are about once a month. Although, some of these once a month ones are HUGE!!!! Like being able to tuck your jeans into any pair of boots you happen to like.12 -
My watch face has been flopping to the underside of my wrist. Couldn't even turn it at my highest weight!20

We are spending a very long weekend with the in-laws, and so far I'm still tracking my food! It's hard being outside of my comfort zone and still trying to eat healthy food, but I'm doing ok and mostly resisting the chocolate chip cookies.22

A workmate (whom I don't interact with at all as in different departments) commented to another workmate that I am close with that I looked much younger now LOL sorry I don't know you but thank you20

When I look down now, I see my boobs, and that's all! My stomach no longer sticks out farther32

I am not beating myself up about macros, and actually upped my calories a bit because I was feeling fatigued and losing weight faster than predicted. Learning to be kind and patient with myself, even if I am really close to my mini scale goal, is such a win.
I realized I quit smoking (for good) more than a year ago. ( I did slip up the week my dad passed away, but then I stopped immediately, rather than just becoming a human chimney again- I can forgive myself that)
I started a group on mpf about thrift store shopping, because I feel the need to talk about all the fabulous things I can get at Goodwill, and there was no such group.

Had a scale goal today and decided to celebrate with a treat - a mashed banana with peanut butter, and still came in at only 1,500 calories for the day!
ETA: Ive been trying to keep my "splurges" reasonable and to not let them push me off the wagon.23 -
I ordered a size 16 dress for my sisters wedding in january. It fits perfectly so I made sure to get a dress that is easily altered as I lose weight because I'm really hoping to be a 12 by then but I don't want to jinx it. I haven't been a 16 since middle school so I'm pretty pleased right now.29

Tonight I went to the movies to see the DCI Quarterfinals. I wanted to wear one of my former drum corps t-shirts. I put it on and realized it was way to big. So I found another shirt that hasn't fit me in 25 years. It felt so good.32

Once upon a time when I walked I could feel my arms rubbing against the side of my belly. Now that my belly has gone down a bit my arms freely swing on the air for the most part24

50 days of consecutive MFP logins and meal logging. Yay!
(Off-topic: How awesome is it that this thread has been going for three years?!?)31 -
Just a minute ago I had a long internal debate about whether I should still race in Athena class (optional for women at 165+ lbs) once I hit my goal of 168. But if I'm going to be competitive with lighter runners, I'd have to drop another 20 lbs, which I don't see the value of otherwise. So goal-setting has become about performance and competition, not self-worth or fixing something broken. It's about building something positive.33

I almost feel like it's not an NSV because I don't like spending money, but literally none of my dresses fit and last week my husband took us out to a really nice restaurant where I was wearing the equivalent of a trash bag because it was a surprise. I guess I should get at least one.
First world problems.36 -

In all honesty she is a lovely (non-nefarious) person but the treats she brings in are really hard to pass up come 3 o'clock!
Way to go!! I have a hard time with freely offered treats like this!
This reminds me, (this isn't really NSV but I promise it's related on some level) my mom has been eating healthfully for as long as I can remember but especially as she's gotten older she can feel the difference if she eats something processed. Usually her feeling all icky isn't worth the "treat"
Cue a Friday am work meeting where donuts were provided. When she politely refused (more b/c she didn't want to feel ill than because she doesn't like them) the coworker offering them up to her became angry My mom said her coworker was all offended and burst out "Oh COME ON Really!? You're not going have a single donut!?" My mom handled it well by smiling and politely insisting "No thanks, I appreciate the offer but I would like to pass."
Thanks to lots of time on this thread and others I was able to reassure her that, although hurtful and aggravating, her experience is not isolated. So thanks MFP community! Your shared experiences really helped out my mom!
Glad our struggle against well-meaning co-workers and their baked goods could help!8 -
Went out for dinner on Tuesday with full plans to order linguine or pizza. Instead ordered zucchini "pasta" and loved every bite while staying within my goals.25

Ahh thank you for posting this! I've been wondering why I've been swinging my arms like a crazy person when walking recently - didn't even think about it being because they're not rubbing against my sides anymore!22 -
looked in the mirror at the pool and saw my shoulders and I was surprised at how good they looked, for over the year I haven't really been proud of my arms due to "bingo wings". I went home and tried on some sleeveless dresses and they look great! previously I only felt comfortable in them with a jacket30

I have so many coverups/jackets/cardigans that it is slightly crazy- I am not yet feeling up to sleeveless but I hope to be there soon- congratulations on your NSV!

Two for this week:
1) Fit into one of my shirts in a smaller size from the back of the closet. I've got some really nice clothes waiting for me when I finally drop a full size!
2) Ran for 30+ minutes 3 times. I'm slowly working my way back to being able to run a 5k by October.28 -
4 days in a row of being under calorie goal. Usually I manage 1 or 2 days then go over, even if just by 20 calories. So far this week, though, I've done well! Now if I can make it through the weekend without a splurge, I maybe will have some momentum.26

A pair of shorts I couldn't even button last month button now.28

I can buy clothes at Costco. I have always walked right by that section because they were always misses sizes, but some cute flannel shirts caught my eye and it dawned on me that I usually wear an XL now. Most clothing comes in my size. They had XXL as well, but I decided to try the XL and it fit! I didn't buy it though, because I want sure I would still be an XL in November.20

A while back I put two giant boxes of clothes that didn't fit in the attic. One was "soon" and one was "later" (depending on how much weight I'd need to lose before I could fit the clothes). I cracked open the "soon", and am wearing jeans from it! They're even a little loose.29

Today I put on a pair of jeans that I haven't fit into since becoming pregnant with my first son in 1993... and yes I kept those jeans because I always said I would fit into them again after having the baby, after having the next baby, after after after... Not only do I have those 23 year old jeans on today, I can also pull them up and down without unbuttoning them. I wore them today, simply because I could and hell, I thought I was fat 23 years ago when I wore these... little did I know I would be soo much bigger than that some day... 70lbs down, 20ish to go, I got this!!!43

I was so excited by yesterday's dress victory that I went for some new workout tops and found out that I know longer need an X of any kind. And then excited about another victory went home and tried on the Frye boots I was given last Christmas that never fit my calves and they slid right on. I'm so excited. I want it to be fall right now so I can wear them.30

Amid the health issues (and the stresses that go with it), the social eating of this week and next, and overall just not being myself, I have stayed committed to this journey by allowing all these things to fuel my desire to finally stick with it. There would have been a time when even the smallest reason would thrown me for a loop and been excuse enough to through in the towel. Commitment is my NSV.29
