Eating healthy while traveling

I am so excited to say that after three days in Chicago and not always being able to select the restaurants we ate in, I lost a half a pound! I looked for healthy markings on the menus, ordered lots of vegetables and lean meats without sauces. I'm also sure that 12000+ steps a day added to my success! I took my own favorite sugar free coffee creamer with me so I always got my day started out on the right foot. I also brought veggies and hummus, fruit and yogurt and low fat cheese and multi grain crackers with me for the hotel and car and grandchildren who eat non stop.
More travel is in my future and travel /restaurant tips are always welcome!

I don't have any tips for you but it sounds like you have it covered. Congrats!

I am a road warrior, and typically travel M-Th and actually I'm currently on an extended assignment in the Chicago area so I'm well aware of all the dangerous eating options there. I pack a Nutribullet, some protein powder, Nutritional yeast, etc. and then buy some greens, frozen berries and unsweetened almond milk at a local grocery store so I can make my own breakfast smoothies. I also eat a lot at grocery salad bars. The Mariano's grocery chain in Chicago has a wonderful salad bar @ $6.49/lb so you can eat really well there relatively cheaply. When traveling in a car on vacation I always pack a cooler and bring along cut veggies to avoid pounding down junk on the road.

In three days we ate in restaurants 8 times which lead to my excitement in my weight loss during those three days! If you like Mediterranean foods check out Roti! It's a go through the line concept similar to Chipote.

Traveling is challenging. You are doing a better job than I do. I just try to order better choices than I would have in the past, but cannot stay within my calorie goals. I like to travel so I just accept that I will gain weight when I do. There has to be a better solution for me! I also brought food for the hotel room last time, but it is the restaurant time that is so hard. Also, I tend to want wine with dinner when I eat out.

Having the hotel room food is way better than vending machines or a quick trip to the corner store, so good for you on that one! Do you ever use the hotel pool to either tread water or swim laps? I also did that. Try putting the calories for your wine in your MFP before you go to dinner, then adjust what you order to eat accordingly.

Hope you guys had/ are having fun in Chicago. That's my hometown! There's a ton of unhealthy food here so it sounds like you guys did a great job of avoiding it!

I travel a lot too and I love your tips. I stay at Marriotts because they have free breakfast and a concierge lounge with food in the evening. Boiled eggs and fruit in the morning and veggies, cheese, and sometimes something like pasta or potatoe salad for dinner. So it's just at lunch that I go out with co-workers and I save the bulk of my calories for that meal so I can enjoy it. It's the only time I let myself indulge in some favorites like Indian food. Travel days are the hardest for me because traveling makes me grumpy, but I'm working on it.

We stayed at Hiltons' while in and around the city. I also enjoyed the free breakfasts. I also selected the hard boiled eggs, 4 actually (but passed on the yolks) with fresh fruit and lots of coffee, haha.
