Heat, Humidty, and Working out--anyone else have problems?

I know that heat and humidity affect people in different ways. For the past couple of weeks, it's been hot and humid for probably most of the country--the Twin Cities being no different.
Does anybody else have problems working out when it's hot and humid? Yes, I have had heat stroke symptoms before and I know that plays a role in it. For working out, I've been able to get walking in. I really would like to get back into a routine of working out, especially with starting a new job soon.

I've moved most of my workouts indoors. DVD's, my gym has a track, etc. It beats passing out :-)0

yes! i'm here in FL and its way too hot certain times of the day. i find myself doing more inside the gym and a little less outside. that helps me stay on track.0

Would it be possible to workout indoors with videos or at gym right now?
I live in Florida and the heat / humidity isn't as bad before sunrise (before 7 am) and right around sunset (7-9pm). I went for a bike ride around 630 last night and it was gorgeous. I wouldn't be able to workout outside from like 10am - 5pm though because it's way too hot and humid.
I hope you can figure something out!0 -
I have been having the same problem here in central Illinois (heat index has been 95 or above every day for the last month). I was trying to do the C25K but have had to cut back. I have been doing more exercise videos like 30 Day Shred so I can still get a good workout in but in the comfort of AC!!0

Indoors for sure!! I'm very heat sensitive.....only wear 3/4 sleeves in the winter and don't own any sweaters :-) Gym and an exercise bike at my house plus my Zumba DVD have saved me. I'm a bit behind where I want to be because of summer travel for almost 3 weeks in a row, but I'm back. You can do it!!!! Any moving is good moving:-)0

I've tried working out indoors. I tried doing a Zumba DVD (with the air conditioning on) a couple of times in the past couple of weeks and felt dizzy about 10 minutes into it. I've been walking a lot indoors (in the malls by my house) to keep moving. For me, it's been frustrating because I've been drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated and I have been watching what I eat. I just want to keep on track working out.
I'm going to go look for some yoga DVD's today to help with this so that I'm doing more than walking.0 -
I was working out twice a day. I would walk 3 miles in the mid-morning and then I would run/walk 3 miles late at night (11pm). Since I get home most nights at 11p and I wanted to spend more time with my wife, I have changed it to walking 5 miles in the mid-morning. I'm working on going up to 6 miles. I don't run during the day because of the heat & humidity (southern illinois smack dab between Carlyle Lake and Rend Lake) to prevent heat exhaustion. I take water with me and I have a towel handy to wipe sweat away. I guess I'm adapting to it and actually starting to like sweating.0

Yeah, the heatwave has really sucked away my motivation if nothing else. I had been working out twice a day, once in the gym in the morning, then after work I'd do Insanity or run or ride a bike... now when I get home I don't have the motivation to even workout inside.0

I play sand volleyball once a week and I have ISSUES!! I live in North Texas (DFW metroplex) and it's HOT. I love heat. Usually. This year it has affected me a lot more than ever before. I'll be out there for 30 minutes and I start feeling nauseous, even though I've been drinking water and gatoraide (gatoraide to replace potassium and sodium that I'm losing by the buckets). It goes away when I start playing, but in those inactive moments, yuck.0

I have been walking indoors in an effort not to have an asthma attack in the heat. The sad part is everyone here has turned down their a/c so its still humid in the mall.0

I know about DFW---I've played in softball tournaments there. The feeling nauseous and dizzy is what sucks about this for me.
It's 86 right now (as I type this) in the Twin Cities with a dew point of 73 and 65% humidity...and it's been like this for the past couple of weeks pretty much everywhere.0 -
The heat doesn't bother me but I did notice that I get winded quicker & my muscles start to fatigue during my 3 mile run.0

Yeah, it's hard. I do my runs very late at night, which probably isn't the safest time to do so. I've tightened my loop so I'm never more than a few blocks from home, and then just do the same loop over and over. It's not too bad at 10pm here in Florida, but anytime the sun is up is unbearably hot and humid.0

"I've tried working out indoors. I tried doing a Zumba DVD (with the air conditioning on) a couple of times in the past couple of weeks and felt dizzy about 10 minutes into it."
Try working out with a fan blowing on you, fill a spray bottle with cold water (put some ice in it), and spray yourself every several minutes. I also run hot. I attach a small fan to the handle of the stationary bike, and use the water spray. It cools me down significantly. The evaporative cooling effect helps tremendously.0 -
I live in Las Vegas where it is hot as hell most of the year. I used to work out in the evenings but the hotter it got the worse the heat in the evenings got and then I would be working out in the dark...not cool.
I changed it up and now go around 530am to 6am and run/bike for an hour or 2. The heat in the morning is not nearly as bad and with sun coming up it's light without being in the sun.
I know all too well the dangers of heat, here, outside in the middle of the day is a HUGE no no.0 -

Thanks for that suggestion! I will definitely try that!0
