I'm on day 17 of my diet/exercise and have only lost 3 lbs. Feels like only water weight. I run, walk, strength training and keep up everything I eat on my log and haven't been over on calories but once and I was wondering how long it takes to effectively lower your RMR and BMR.

I'm 22, 230 lbs BMI of 28% and I exercise 5-6 days a week now.

I need some facts to ease my mind. I'm not discouraged, just curious. I love running and lifting. It has become my favorite thing.

Thanks in advance..

It sounds like you know what your doing. 3 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks seems like it wouldn't be water weight. It's probably fat loss. if you're working out and eating right, at most you'll lose 2 lbs a week. I was only ever able to lose 1.75 per week at first. now I'm only able to drop about 1 if I really work at it. water weight is usually about 20 lbs with the weight you described. And it only happens once. And it doesn't happen to everyone. If you normally drank water prior to the 17 days then you wouldn't lose water weight. keep doing what your doing and you'll likely drop 1 1/2 lbs each week.

the only thing that can lower your BMR is weight loss.

I may have used the wrong word. I'm wondering how can I effectively speed up my metabolism?

    eat more frequently
smaller meals spread throughout the day, 6-8 meals
    your metabolism will keep churning

I agree. You'll know when your metabolism is really kicking in after about 2 weeks of eating like this. at about the 2 week mark, you'll start getting huge bowel movements every morning.

keep starches to zero. no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. the only carbs should be fresh fruits and veggies. increase protein and don't do low fat. don't over do fat, but don't rid yourself of it. on those days you work out, you'll be training your body to burn fat as fuel instead of carbs.
