C25K

In May I made a goal to be able to jog a 5k by May 2012. Now that I can walk normally (no limp or "stroke leg" nerve damage pains) I am seriously considering starting the C25K training plan. Has anyone else done/doing it?

I'm a "graduate," and can't say enough good things about it.0

Can you tell me a little about your experience?0

I just started it. I start Week 2 tomorrow. Good Luck if you do decide to try it.0

I just finished week 5 the last day of which is the dreaded 20 minute run but it went well. This program starts out slow and works up. You can repeat any day you feel didn't go well. I don;t run very fast but I am sure I will improve. I wasn't that into running just wanted to intensify my almost 5K walks so I thought I would go with a proven program. I think I am starting to really love my "runs". There are some groups on here where we share our experience I highly recommend them too.0

I did a modified version of it, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. I was able to do more than the first couple weeks required, so I modified my starting point further into the program, but I found it was challenging yet doable. I can now run a 5k in about 35 minutes. Robyn is starting it from the beginning, as well, so maybe you two can compare notes. Are you doing it on a treadmill or on the road? I have only done treadmill running. I need to get out on the road and do it!0

I just completed session 1 week 1 - and thoroughly enjoyed it! could run the 60 second bursts easily, was very nervous about it as hate running but actually found myself enjoying it - I used the podcast made by Robert Ullery on my iPod so no need to time myself all the time and it helped, I think if I had tried to do it with a watch I would have got either confused or sick! There are 9 podcasts relating to each of the 9 weeks in the program.0

I'm doing it now though it is quite modified. I do it 3 days per week since the beginning of July but am still on week 1!! LOL!!! I really, REALLY push myself each time more and more and I just can not make myself move on the week 2. But, I am not really using it for training; I just enjoy it. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to like running or already does.
I like the fact that I do not have to think about when to run or walk it just "ding, run" tells me what to do and I do it. I have mainly done it on the treadmill as it is upwards of 100 everyday. In the fall I plan on getting back out on the road with it; as I find road running much more challenging than the treadmill.0 -
I am truly going COUCH to 5K. I just finished week 1 after doing NOTHING.
I feel better already. I could barely walk 1/2 mile before without being winded.0 -
I'm on week 3 and it's been great. I highly recommend you get either a podcast or an app on your smartphone that tells you when to run and when to walk, it just makes it so much easier. I have the Get Running app on my iphone and I am pleased with it.0

Thanks everyone, I am hearing really positive things about it. That makes it a lot less daunting to get started.
I'm really looking forward to tracking my progression.
@Misti - I am primarily going to go road but if I miss one I might make it up on the treadmill another night.0 -
I have one more run of week 9 and I will be finished. I *LOVE* it and cannot say enough good things about it! When I first started I would look at the planned runs for week 6 and up and think, "There is no way" but there is!!! I have suprised myself over and over while completing this program and it is so nice to be working towards a goal other than weight loss
Go for it!!!!!!!0 -
I'm starting week 2 Tomo and week one was ok! I'm determines to finish it!!0

We could get together and run. Misti wants to get off the treadmill, and I want to do more stuff outside as well.0

Arron,
I just finished day 1 of week 2, and I feel great!!! If you have an android phone or an i phone you can get the C25K app. It was $2.99 on my android, and it is AWESOME!!!! You can listen to music, it tells you when to run and when to walk, so you're not watching the clock. It made it so much easier for me to run today. I highly recomend it!!0 -
definitely recommend it! i wouldnt be running without it! I started off in May this year struggling to run a few minutes and now i can run for 35-40 mins without a problem!
it builds up your running in intervals and your body gets used to it. To begin with, id say 'jog' rather than run for the run sections. Repeat weeks if you have to, its just a guide not an absolute!
there are various apps and podcasts which tell you when to run/ walk etc.
good luck0
