My road to weight loss and lifestyle change....

My goal - which I established on or about Jan 27 - was to become more fit. I knew it would require a LIFESTYLE change - and I was committed to that end.
I found MFP - and couldn't have done what I have done without it. It taught me to be consciously aware of what I put in my body. I started out weighing 210 pounds - I am a 5'9" male - so I looked 4~6 months pregnant. NOT GOOD for a guy to look like that.
Using MFP I dropped to 190 lbs by March. I did this through watching what TYPES of food I ate - and watching the AMOUNT that I ate. I also started a regular exercise program that includes bike riding (both mountain and road) and going to Planet Fitness.
However - once I got to 190 I couldn't get below that at all. I tried switching it up - I tried pigging out once to get off that plateau, I tried exercising more, I tried everything I could think of, and what I heard others doing. No avail - no wieght loss past 190 lbs. I was stuck at 190 for WEEKS and WEEKS. VERY frustrating.
Then I stumbled upon a new approach called "The Glycemic Load Diet". After reading the book - I realized that I am insulin resistant. In other words - if my blood sugar spikes after eating high carb foods - it then spikes my insulin - which turns whatever I ate straight to fat. Doesn't matter how many calories I did or didn't eat - that is just what my body will do. I gain weight around my middle - which is classic insulin resistance. So I started adhering to the GL plan - which in a nutshell is no potatoes, no rice, no bread, no noodles - basically NO STARCH. I can eat fresh fruit - I can eat meat, dairy, etc. If I shop around the periphery of the store (excluding the bakery) I am pretty much good to go.
Since I have been living the GL diet - I have dropped from 190 to 176 - and am still losing weight.
Anyway - I thought I would share this in case anyone else out there is the same boat I am - which is insulin resistant. I am now happily losing wieght.

The trainer at the PF I go to gave me info on that. I was already using the basic principles. At first I thought he was wanting to sell me something, but he hasn't followed up with that. Which is good.
It's cool you found what works for you. I'm motivated to get back to it now. Thanks for sharing!0
