First time on a treadmill!

I just joined a gym and started walking on the "weight loss" setting. I kept hearing some kind of motor sound often and I was looking around trying to figure out what it was. Well I couldn't understand why I couldn't breath and felt so hard to walk. Then I noticed the treadmill setting on "incline" I couldn't believe it. The heart rate reader wasn't working and read my heart rate as 80. I'm more like 180. Kept increasing the incline and I was so nervous about working out I didn't notice! Needless to say I quickly changed machines!

The weight loss setting is often a preset program with differing speeds/inclines. You may be better off starting with manual settings - this will allow you to choose your speed and incline yourself and go up/down as needed until you are more comfortable with the machine.5
