I can't count the number of times I've started and stopped. My most recent excuse was that my last job was so bad, I couldn't function outside of work. Like, really, I spent all my time on the couch. Then I got a new job and moved across the country. That has come with its own set of challengers, but it's really really really time to stop making excuses. I turn 30 in less than 6 months, and my practical goal is to lose 30 pounds by then. I'll want to lose another 30-40 pounds after that, but one thing before another.

I need motivation to go to the gym and eat better. Ice cream and chips are my weaknesses, and I just really don't enjoy going to the gym.

I've decided a goal of going to the gym 4 times a week should be good to get me started. If I can do this for 10 weeks, hopefully I'll be able to do it another 10 weeks with ease. A motivational tool I picked up from NerdFitness is that I'm gonna take $100 and pin it next to the calendar I have to track this. If I don't go to the gym 4 times a week for 10 weeks (with the exceptions being my two or three trips in there that kind of make that more difficult), I will have to donate that $100 to a political campaign that I don't agree with. It would really grind my gears to have to do that, and it's so easily preventable, right? Right. So this is my mission. Will you help support me through this? I'll help you, too, I promise!

Add me please!

haha. Punishment doesn't work with me. I don't like playing the shame game with myself. Guilt is overrated.

I just remind myself that I want to stay at my current weight, and every decision regarding food and exercise is supporting that goal.

For me, it's a long-game. I lost 70+ pounds over a period of about nine months. It took me quite some time to learn about nutrition and its effect on my body and my emotions. I learned by spending a lot of time on these forums, searching through nutrition sites, studying my Food page here, and experimenting with food. For me it's about protein, fats, vegetables and a small dessert with my meal (plain Greek yogurt and fruit.) That keeps me at a stable weight and a stable emotional state. I had to cut back on many foods, and there are some I just don't buy very often (ice cream and potato chips are some of those.) If I don't have snack foods, I don't eat them.

I don't think my method is punishment or guilt... just motivation. And I got the idea from NerdFitness, which is a pretty awesome fitness website. It's actually a good way to combine doing something political instead of just talking about it while also trying to accomplish my personal goals. If I do complete my goals, I can donate that money to an organization I do support.

Does NerdFitness also give you tips on how to do some of your workout at home? If I had to go to a place away from home 4x/week I would always find excuses, but when I see my mat in the hall by the kitchen I can make myself do some planks or pushups while beans are in the crockpot or commercials are on TV. Build fitness into your life, add vegetables to each meal, you can do this.
