Hi
I've suffered with RA for 20+ years and I've been different weights due to fad dieting. Need a new health regime - for life so here I am.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Just log your intake as honestly and accurately as possible. Commit to being honest with yourself. Losing weight is easier than we think - it's just a math game. You have to eat fewer calories than you burn. BUT, if you don't know the number of calories you're taking in, then you'll never be able to figure out the math. When I first started logging, I was sure I didn't eat too much. And I was right - I wasn't eating all that much. But the things I WAS eating were ridiculously high in calories, which is why I was over 200 lbs. Once I started logging and figuring out how many calories I was eating, it was easy to make substitutions that saved me a ton of calories. I've been at goal weight for 3 years now, and the loss started with me being honest with myself. I still eat those high-calorie things I love - just not as often as I used to.

Welcome to MFP - you've got this. :flowerforyou:

I am at present on an autoimmune, anti-inflammatory diet and finding out what foods make my symptoms worse. I have definitely noticed a difference in inflammation and joint pain.

I am just starting out on this path. Went to a family reunion over weekend, was not drinking but had a lot of different foods that I normally don't eat. Today I feel terrible, ache all over, joint pain and stiffness. Looking for a buddy to help with this process.....ugh.....

so, what are you going? Organics? Vegan? I also need to lose 50 pounds :( I work long hours and while I do take the steps to my 5th floor office I am sure that is not enough. What tips can you share?

I have a dear friend with the same diagnosis. She swims daily for exercise. She also avoids gluten, caffeine, uses ginger and tumeric in her cooking as much as possible, takes a baby asprin every day along with fish oil and flax seed oil supplements, takes massive amounts of Vitamin D. Of course, all of this is done working with her doctor. But she has successfully managed her RA for over 4 years, has never taken the standard RA meds and lost a lot of weight from being so mindful of her dient and swimming almost every day. Hope some of that is usesful. (I have all this info because of a group chat on FB when I hooked her up with another friend who was recently diagnosed with RA).

Thanks everyone. I'm on lots of medication and eat foods that contain anti-inflammatory nutrients. This is an area I need to investigate further. There's not much information about foods and RA from the rheumatology dept at my hospital.
I appreciate you all taking the time
