Quitting the gym

I think it is a good decision for you, based upon the equipment you are utilizing. You are only using a treadmill and stair climber – you can walk or run and climb actual stairs in countless (and more interesting) places for free, so why pay the gym fees? If you were utilizing the gym’s strength training equipment it would be a reasonable investment, but since you don’t, so I wouldn’t second guess quitting.1

Putting in a pool at my house would be stupidly expensive beyond my gym membership ($25,000 at minimum plus upkeep, compared to $30 a month at the gym) and I wouldn't have it in the winter. The gym is a no brainer.
Although with that said, today, when the heat index was 91, and I'd been dealing with blood sugar issues that made running in that heat downright dangerous, it was *lovely* to be able to go use the treadmill instead. I hate treadmill as a primary running tool, but it has its rare uses.
IKR! I dream of a home pool, even an endless pool, but I don't have that type of money.
When the daytime temp easily reaches over 100 here and getting to the gym is a logistical hassle as it can be some days I get my *kitten* on the exercise bike and try to find a movie or something... I'll never LIKE exercising that way, but some days it is that or nothing.
I'd love a home pool, but unless it was completely indoors, there's no way it comes close to replicating what I've got at the gym. And I don't want to give up swimming in the winter and fall.
I nearly quit my gym membership when I moved into an academic position. The gym is five minutes from home, though, so I could go on the weekend, and my university is 20 minutes away. I'm glad I was too lazy to turn in the paperwork, because it has been nice to have those convenient options when I want to swim or it's simply not safe to run outside.0 -
I've found YouTube HIIT workouts to be very effective.0

I love going to the gym but that's because I love classes. I used to just do workout DVD's at home but didn't enjoy it as much as going to classes. Everyone has their thing. It sounds like home workouts will suit you better for what you like to do.0

I alternate between the gym and biking, but I use the treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, weights and also partake in the boxing fitness classes (or will do when my fitness is back up to that level)0
