Since I am doing this at home and have no clue what I'm doing, thought I'd ask.

Is there a certain amount of time I should spend on this? How do I know when I should get heavier dumbbells. I only have 2 pounders right now. Is there a website that can explain what and how I should use them properly?

Thanks.

i never do curls, ever. If all you have is 2# dumbbells, look up some bodyweight exercise programs, you'll get a lot more benefit from that than trying to work with the 2#. And depending on your goals you may never need dumbbells.

If you can do more than 25+ reps without strain its probably time to get heavier weight. Just watch your form so you don't cause elbow problems.

For best results follow a full-body program designed by a pro. It will explain everything you need to know. A decent starter program is the one at Nerd Fitness. :+1:

If you want big arms skip the curls and work the triceps. Do Pull downs on the rope 6 sets of 10 heavy 6 sets of 30 light and your arms will swell up pretty fast. The Triceps are by far the biggest muscle in your arms.
