My roommate is moving in a week before Halloween. I have surgery coming up next month but we plan to be pirates for our Halloween party. (We have a one eyed kitten and us three are going to be pirates). I will be on bed rest for like a week but I want to lose weight. I need recipes that will boost my metabolism. Anything would help. Thanks

Recipes can't really boost your metabolism. The best way to burn more calories is to move more, but I understand your upcoming surgery will complicate that. That said, you can lose weight even without exercise by eating fewer calories than you burn. Someone on bed rest will burn fewer calories than someone not on bed rest, but you can still eat at a deficit!
If you haven't already, try plugging your stats and goals into MFP, get a calorie goal, and hit that goal consistently. If you want to get an idea of what other people are eating, check out the "Food and Nutrition" and "Recipes" areas.13 -
Metabolism boosting is sadly a myth. Your body burns calories at the rate by which it utilizes them.
You burn calories by moving externally (walking, exercise, daily activities...) or internally (heartbeat, breathing, liver function, brain function...).
That's why the only "metabolism boosters" that actually work are illegal. They work by speeding up your body's internal processes which runs the risk of causing your heart to explode.
Things like special foods, diets, lemon water, etc. are just trendy things to try for metabolism boosting that are founded in myth and simply don't work.12 -
There are no foods that boost metabolism.5

Additionally, trying to eat at a deficit following surgery probably isn't the best idea. Your body is going to be trying to heal and it needs calories in order to do that. It would be a better idea to try to lose what you can prior to surgery, but just eat at maintenance while recovering. Realistically, losing an additional 1-2 pounds isn't going to make a ton of difference for your Halloween costume, but trying to lose weight immediately post-surgery might slow your recovery.16

Recipe to boost metabolism: run (or anything else that increased blood flow, lung work, heart rate). And then it's only increased while you're at the increase work load.
There are no magic foods that can increase or decrease metabolism.
Metabolism is just the rate at which your body uses energy as fuel. The more you work (use energy), the more fuel (calories) you use/need to consume.3 -

Worry about recovering from your surgery. Once you finish that deal with the weight loss. Take care!6

This is a good point, I should have thought of it!0 -
