Feeling down and diet is suffering

I had been doing great on my current diet and was seeing great results...
Then last week I got a response back from my dream job that I applied too last month. I currently work for minimum wage just under full time hours so I don't get benefits. My dream job made it sound like they were interested in hiring me with a real salary and benefits doing something I loved.
They needed me to send them a few more materials ASAP. So I sent it to them the next day, but didn't hear back from them all week. During this time I'm an anxious mess, and had a slip up day, but I didn't really dwell on it all things considered .
Well they emailed me yesterday saying they changed their mind.
Ever been so upset that it literally made you feel sick to the stomach? That's how I felt. Despite that, I made a beeline for McDonald's earlier, and finished my meal even though it didn't even taste remotely fresh or good.
I guess I'm just here to vent since I'm sure others have been in similar situations, and I could really use some empathy right about now...

That does suck. I read an article the other day that said having a bad job was supposedly more stressful than being unemployed. Hopefully you will get another shot at a dream job soon.
To try to see the bright side, you learned that McDonald's isn't as good as it seemed like it would be, so maybe it will be easier to resist in the future. Everyone needs comfort sometimes, and if you are used to getting comfort from food, it's hard to form new habits. I have a favorite book I like to curl up and read. And I'm trying to find special food treats which are within my allotted calories - like a cinnamon latte with vanilla almond milk and dark chocolate. But sometimes life gets on top of you.
One bad day won't destroy all your progress. Get back on that horse and keep going.2 -
Thank you Rhedd- you're right. I might be bummed for a little while, but the sooner I move on, the better off I'll be.

I totally feel you. I've definitely had my hopes up and had them dashed more times than I care to remember. It's great that you tried out for a job you wanted; some people just daydream and never go after what they really want. As you know, having one or two days of anxiety eating won't ruin all your weight loss progress. So, get back on the horse, keep logging, and enjoy knowing that you can do that. And, obviously, you can keep applying for better jobs because you've already got your resume updated. Good luck!1

I can relate so hard to this particularly today - I was up for a promotion ... even was asked to apply for it by the hiring manager ... only to be told today via an impromptu phone call on my day off that I was not selected for the position. This news happened about 5 minutes, no lie, after my bicycle tire went flat 8 miles into an out and back ride with no spare tire and no money on me. So needless to say, I had a long 2 hour walk with the bike back to the car with plenty of time to beat myself up for not earning the promotion...
I literally had a full box of chocolates and a jar of chunky peanut butter (my two favorite foods to binge on) in my hands about 30 feet from the register when I simply stopped, put those items down, and walked to the register with only the bicycle tube (what I actually went to the store for). I even hungrily looked at the register's candy options to see what I could justify grabbing last minute, but yet again, stood strong and didn't actually buy anything I would binge eat. Small victories, as they say!
I share my story to say I can wholeheartedly show empathy to you on this topic - particularly so....Today was an emotional day for us both. But we will wake up tomorrow stronger for having experienced what we did today.... and over time, our coping mechanisms will get stronger, too. Today, that McDonalds didn't taste as good as you thought it would - next time, maybe you'll go to McDonalds and order a salad instead or you'll go to a healthier fast food place. Hopefully for me, I won't even walk down the food aisles next time I have a setback like this. Progress will take time, both with careers and our weight management journies.
Best of luck to you, OP. Brighter days are ahead!4
