Homemade Chocolate Syrup
Hi MFP friends! I just wanted to share something with you that I was super excited to find. I woke up the other morning (1:30 am to be exact) completely disturbed by the ingredients I read on the label of my Hershey's syrup!!! What was the point of giving my children organic milk if I was going to add all those chemicals to it? SO I set out (yes at 1:30 am) to search on-line for an all natural or organic product.....everything I found was WAY over-priced, & I would have to order it on-line or drive way out of my way to get it. So I found several simple recipes to make it myself! Why hadn't I thought of this before? I guess you just have to take matters into your own hands sometimes. It was divine intervention I am convinced I have to admit that I have known about the ingredients for a while but chose to ignore them.....taking away my little boy's chocolate milk in the morning would be like child abuse in his opinion! So here is the link if you are in the same boat as I am!!!!

Alton Brown on Good Eats also made Homemade Chocolate syrup. I've made it before, and they're right the taste is SO much better. If you're in a pinch, or you can't cook to save yourself...you can roll with NesQuick syrup. It's the only mass produced, easy to find chocolate syrup that isn't HFCS base. They actually still use good old fashioned sugar...:) Even better is if you can find an organic chocolate syrup, but those can be difficult to come by. Good luck to everyone...:)0

I am going to do the vanilla extract too. I already make a lot of my own bath products and give them as gifts too. I'm sure I will find lots more fun things to try on this website! Thanks for sharing.0

I also use Alton Brown's chocolate syrup recipe, as well as his hot cocoa recipe. You'll want to add a little corn syrup to the recipe in the first link, as that helps it remain liquid enough to pour at room temperature. Otherwise it can end up solidifying and be more like chocolate frosting then chocolate syrup.0
