I don't have a real hula hoop, but I play the game on Wii fit. It is addicting, and I've been thinking of getting a hoop in real life. I already got a jump rope!

Oh, I got a giant hula hoop at a Saturday Market and I love it! I'm not very good at it (well, I'm really bad at it) but it's fun!

It's not a full body movement, similar to swinging isn't you jacking your whole body out to swing.. it's a weight distribution thing. Find a ring big enough to put on your finger or wrist and pay attention to how it feels to keep it spinning. You aren't moving your whole hand or arm, really.. it's a more contracted and controlled movement. Hula hooping is the same thing only using your core. It does take practice but you actually want your body to stay more still than not. It's a weird thing but once you get the feel for it, you can start to get the hang of it.

Of course, having said that, I haven't done it in 30 years..... just because I get the dynamics doesn't mean I can pick one up and do it! *grins* theory vs. practice.
  • I do the hula hooping on the Wii fit as well and I love it :-)

I LOVE the hula-hoop on the wii especially the 6 minute one :)

I have a weighted hula hoop that i've had for a few years but can't do it very well so tend to give up easily!!!

I like the hula hoop on the Wii Fit too. It's definitely not as easy as it sounds, especially when you're doing it for 3+ minutes AND having to catch the hula hoops being thrown to you too!

Hoop dance is one of my most favorite things ever! I've been inside the hoop about a year and 1/2. I'm also part of a local hoop troupe with 3 other ladies.

As far as tips on becoming better (as a pp posted)? Get yourself a large, adult sized hoop. Start with basic tutorials available on youtube. That's how I taught myself. Also, hooping is increasing in popularity. You may even have classes in your town!

    Peace-Love-and Hoopyness!

I started out with a regular hula hoop in order to re-learn how to hula, then I moved onto a wave (water-filled) hula hoop to get better, now I own a 3 pound weighted large hula hoop, which is an awesome workout. If you think it does not work, think about this ~ I have lost 5 inches in my waist and 5 inches in my hips since beginning hula hooping just over a month ago. Ya' just gotta love that!! :flowerforyou:

I'm hula hooping and having a great time! I got a weighted hoop. I can't get my daughter's going - it is much too small around - so I looked for an adult sized one and found a link here for weighted hoops. I love it!

i love hula hooping on my wii fit! Ive just unlocked the 10minute one and i can definitley feel that working! im not fantastic at it as i tend to lose my rythm every now and again, but its certainly a great work out!
  • I just started hooping again and find it taking my breath away.
    I'm loving it though!

Started hooping today and I couldn't believe how difficult it was. I was able to go for 5 minutes and I definitely felt it, so I know as I increase the minutes, I will see results. Right now I have a basic adult hoop, but as I get better, I will get a weighted one. Hoping to have some inches lost in my next 4 week measurements.

I use my weighted hoop for 30-45 minutes a day, during my "tv" time, that way I'm not being a lazy a$s sitting on the sofa! Love it!
