I am a 34 year old mother of 3 I put on loads of weight 4 years ago, when I gave up smoking my thyroid became underactive and i started a sit down office job. I am now about 3and a half stone over weight. I love exercise and know loads about nutrition but I never seem to lose weight even though my blood tests say my thyroid is normal with my current medication.......would love to hear from anyone who has the same problem and would be great to hear from someone who has solved it! I feel like I must be going wrong somewhere.

Hi, I'm Tami, it's nice to meet you! I don't have any information about the thyroid except a close friend of mine has had problems with her's and struggles all the time with her weight. I can tell you.... I quit smoking about a month ago and since then I've gained probably 15-20 pounds. I too love to exercise and plan on getting back on my program tomorrow. (Kind of just been slacking since I quit). I really want to start working out twice a day. Can't go wrong doing that, right? Well, welcome and I hope you lose it quickly and forever!!!0

Nice to meet you. My story is not completely the same as yours, but here it is. I quite smoking after doing it on and off again for 12 years. When I quit I was going through a lot life changes marriage, school, etc. I have a couple members with low thyroid and both of them eventually ended up on perscription medication. Mine is normal to low (depending on the week)... not low enought to take perscription meds. I started taking kelp caps, because they contain both iodine and other nutrients beneficial to the body. It has alleviated my symptoms, but did not see the scale change much. I have heard from my family members that it still takes hard work to lose the weight, even with persciption and natural remedies. My advice would be to make time for yourself and find a type of exercise that you enjoy. Eating right and exercise seems to be the only thing that works for me.There are a lot of time saving exercise systems out there that help to fit in with a busy lifestyle... such as 30 Day Shred and 10 Minute Trainer. I hope this helps. Good luck!0

I am not a bad eater - much healthier than alot of people I know at the beggining of year I was regularly going to gym 3 x per week and eating well and doing other exercise during week my friend lost over a stone in 3 months I didnt even lose a single pound. I am wondering if it is cos in uk they prescribe synthetic thyroxin perhaps natural would be better. I have lost weight over last 2 years but only when they have upped my dose......I feel like if I was to do any more than I already do it would be verging on the extreme and therefore unhealthy.0
