I can handle nearly anything. My body going bonkers, my mom suddenly passing, even a broken engagement.
But I'm frustrated with my dialysis because I've reached 195 pounds. I was 10 pounds lighter just a month ago. The treatments add anywhere from 2-5 pounds and 2-4 inches on my waist... I'm frustrated because I don't know how to count something as a progress.

It sounds like you've had to handle a lot! I don't have any suggestions, but I'm sorry to hear about the dialysis issues. I'm sure that is VERY frustrating.

If I were in your place I would call handling another day progress. I don't know how long you have been on dialysis, so maybe wait it out for a while to see how your body reacts in general. And don't be shy to ask the doctors and nurses for information about EVERYTHING.3

Thank both for the replies. I've not been on dialysis long about 5 months. I know part of it is my own lack of movement. I'll talk with my dietician on the 6th and see if she can give me some %s to work in. I know I need quite a bit of protien, but carbs and fat I'm lost on. I have to keep my carbs in check due to also bring diabetic0 -
Ask the dietician about your current daily calorie count, that you're gaining weight, and is it from inaccurate logging? Or from something related to dialysis.
How tall are you and how many calories are you eating with what expected weight loss as per mfp?0 -
@fiddletime: I doubt it's my logging in any form for two reasons, 1. My dialysis machine logs everything concerning that (drain & fill amounts, BP, heart rate, body temp, blood sugar, weight) daily. 2. I just got back into tracking my food/calories. I'm seeing patterns all ready. Mostly salt being high so my body is probably holding a little fluid then normal. But, I'll be sure to double check with her.
As far as MFP stats, it suggests 1452 ish calories with an expected weight loss of 1 pound a week with exercise. Which I'll start Monday when I get up.
It's always been my habit to fix any links in my diet first then exercise.1 -
Sounds like you're starting to get things sorted out. By "logging" I meant weighing all portions of food in grams to get an accurate calorie count, and putting all calories for every bite of food or liquids ingested per day into MFP. Then, since mfp gives you how many calories you need to eat per day to lose a pound a week, as long as you're tracking that you can see why you aren't losing weight.
You've gained ten pounds in a month- was that when you were eating 1452 calories? To gain 2# a week in fat you'd have to be eating 1000 calories a day over your BMR so you'd have to be eating at least 2200 calories a day and depending on your height it could be more.
If you weren't counting calories until very recently, there isn't any way to know and now that you're counting and logging you'll probably see that you're just eating too much. A month seems like a long time to have high water weight from salt. Good luck and stick with it. You'll make progress.1 -
Definitely discuss everything with your dietician. I think people with kidney disease/issues need to be careful about the amount of protein they eat. I believe I've heard you need to be careful not to eat too much.
Hopefully, your dietician can give you a good plan to follow with the right, balanced amounts of protein, carbs, etc. Please let us know how that appointment goes.0 -

@fiddletime: The sudden gain is something I've noticed the last 2 weeks. From the time I started dialysis in April of this year, my "dry weight" has been 184-187. So,to see it jump to 190 then 195 in the span of two different Dr appointments concerned me. No, the calorie tracking I just started this week. Recommend intake was 1600 but I'm not working so don't need as much. Oh! I do have a food scale I use it mostly to weight things I don't eat often like chips. Everything is most likely due to a touch of stress eating.
@SaraKim17 With kidney diease, Yes. I was restricted on what type and how much I could eat. Now, that I'm on dialysis that restriction is lifted due to my body *needing* more to work right. Thankfully, just my normal intake seems to be enough.
@ladyhusker39 I am. At least, my form of professional. I've got plenty of friends and family that check on me and give me a hand if I need it.

It all went well. I've just got to remember to take my binders more often then I have been. Everything else seems to be stable and good to go.0
