I was just wondering which burns the most calories....walking or exercise bike

I swapped 80 minute walking to 80 minutes exercise bike and don't seem to have lost any weight any gained

Should I go back to walking

Weight loss is about your calorie intake. What are you doing on that?

How many calories are you taking in compared to how many you're putting out?

You lose weight when calories out is more than calories in.

And to chime in......there are two sides to this equation: your caloric intake and your energy expenditure. So, as much as some might dislike this term - energy in, energy out! AKA, Calories In, Calories Out!

Exercise - in any form - is part of the "Calories Out" side.

So, you need to know what your "Calories In" are and you need to know what your "Calories Out". With this question you are looking to figure out your "Calories Out".

Since "adherence" is a huge part of this journey (in my opinion) I would suggest to you that you should do what you enjoy doing the most. All things being equal. And, every now and again, change things up a little bit. That might just be a good combination!

Which form of exercise do you prefer? A walk possibly in a park (away from traffic pollution) rather than a treadmill or a static bike. You will be moving different muscle groups which may be a benefit if you were to do a combination and remember your rest days.

It's also not weight gain if you cycled 6 hours ago and saw a gain the morning after.

Were you losing when you were walking? If so, then I'd say yes, go back to walking. Either you were burning more or the bike is causing you to be hungrier and you are eating more. Either way if one was working and the other isn't, I'd say go back.

Whichever one you're more likely to keep doing is the better one.

OP happens to be on my friends list. The cycling switch was yesterday, the gain was today.

    Srsly????

OP, you've started several threads in various forums about this, and have been given a number of very useful answers. Of course, the fact that you only switched to cycling yesterday is kind of important information that you didn't share. Your 'gain' either has absolutely nothing to do with cycling, or it's water weight from new exercise that uses different muscles.

How long is a piece of string?

This is an unanswerable question as you haven't stated the speed, resistance, length of walk/ride, etc.

But in the end, I would say exercise for fitness and cut calories for weight loss.

    My speed is 14-15mph

Are you using a food scale to ensure you are staying at that calorie intake? No cheat meals, no guessing, no eyeballing intake, etc.?

I have cheat days but I don't go crazy, I've just bought a food scale and now waiting for it

I would do both walking and cycling. Mix it up. Have fun with it. Maybe let the weather decide which one to do.

Also, push yourself...exertion will help with the calorie burn.

One last suggestion - don't do cheat days. Do a cheat meal if you must, but not a whole day. If you feel a cheat meal coming your way, be good on the other two meals to lessen the impact.

Tighten up the logging. The exercise is awesome, but it isn't what is going to be the prime driver of weight loss/gain. Do what you enjoy and will stick with for exercise. Lock down the calorie intake.

I do prefer to drink hot water with lemon in morning. This will burn much of your calories
