I got diabetes and it is great that you want prevent it before it damages your pancreas too much. Eating lots of carbs really hurts and led me to an A1C of 10.5 which is way above the 5.7 which starts pre-diabetes. I have gotten off of insulin and found lots of foods I like doing Low Carb High Fat. That has also led to my best cholesterol ever. Recently I have also been experimenting with intermittent fasting as that is suppose to give your pancreas a break to increase your insulin sensitivity. You should check these out and see if these fit what you need.2

Work out, start running daily and try becoming a vegan.4

I am a pre-diabetic. I lost 8 pounds a few months ago and dropped my A1C level by limiting my carbs. Unfortunately I gained 4 pounds back. I am starting all over and hoping to use this community to support me through this. Good luck Cherylsp6!1

No.
This is not healthy for *every* one. In fact, running daily - especially when just starting a weight loss journey - can cause some serious damage if not done right. Going vegan will not do anything by itself -- a vegan diet can be full of rice, pasta, potatoes, bread.... all things that a pre-diabetic does NOT need.
OP, plug your stats into MFP and follow the plan for healthy, sustainable weight loss. Incorporate walks and moderate exercise into your day, and maybe move away from processed foods to help keep your sodium and carb intake down. Do things that work for you and that are sustainable, not a crash diet that will leave you binging. Don't try to do too much, because then you risk major burn out. The community here is incredibly supportive and will answer any and all questions!6 -
I am also prediabetic and want to prevent going into full diabetic. My last blood sugar was 95 but my fasting insulin was 25, which means I am insulin resistant. My doctor wants me to lose 10 lbs before I see her again (6 months follow up, which is in November.) Only way to keep this in check is to lose the weight, your body is working harder than it should and is starting to not keep up. Exercising helps make the body's cells more sensitive to insulin.0

Also is you don't have a glucose meter, get one. I test my blood sugar when I am fasting to see how I am doing. I don't do it everyday, but I will test for a week and see how I am trending. I also test when I feel "off" so that I can learn what my body is trying to tell me.2

Regular exercise and losing weight will do more than anything.
I would recommend that in addition to walking that you mix in some more moderate intensity cardiovascular work along with some resistance training...1 -

Running daily isn't necessarily a good idea, though regular exercise is.
