So I've been under my calorie goal every day for 2 weeks now. I've been weight training and doing cardio 6/7 days a week and burning an average of 500 calories a day doing it. I've been eating mainly salads, raw nuts, lean meats, etc. Last night I went out and had 3 non-alcoholic beers and a virgin Caesar. This morning I stepped on the scale and have gained 4 lbs since last Saturday. How is this even possible????!! Please tell me it's water retention...

I'm guessing you know the answer to this already but - do you think you've eaten 14000 calories over your maintenance level this week?

Water weight, how much is in your digestive system. I used to yoyo 10-15 lbs up and down a week when I was in wrestling and had 5-7% body fat. The scale has a lot of noise, don't use it as your only means of measuring progress and don't let one day or small fluctuations affect you.

Same way I gained 6 by eating Chinese food -- sodium. Although unlike you, I'd did not stay under my goal.

Water weight from excess sodium, dehydration, hormonal changes, eating extra carbs (if you're low carb), constipation, food/water consumed weight, hormones, hormones, oh did I mention hormones?

Thanks all! That's what I figured but it's nice to hear that others agree! I'm just sticking to my calories/macros today and downing tons of water. Hopefully it will come off! Also, a friend showed me something called The Fat Woosh which was pretty interesting if true!

Do the math...you would have to eat in excess of 14,000 calories over your maintenance to actually put on 4 Lbs of fat.

Body weight fluctuates...I can be up or down 2-5 Lbs day to day. There are a myriad of things that effect water weight...for one thing, your body is comprised of 50-65% water and that will always just fluctuate naturally...exercise causes water retention...sodium...TOM, etc, etc, etc...

Let us know when you find out in a few days.
