I don't personally need to lose weight myself but well up for motivation and to kick my *kitten* into gear sometimes
Add me if you want0 -
Motivation isn't really what I believe people need. One minute you may be motivated by reading a inspirational slogan, or by watching someone with an athletic body. I am motivated to complete an Ironman 70.3 and to run marathons. But if its 40 degrees and raining at 5 am in the morning, there is no motivation to crawl out of bed and train. Will-power (effort to take action or restrain impulses) will vary in strength depending upon hunger levels, glucose levels, how tired you are, etc. We all struggle with desires and impulses and temptations. This all just means that you are human and normal.
Example: One might be really motivated to lose 25 pounds. They change the diet, eat tons of kale, and drink lots of water, say no to deserts, and go to the gym a couple times. 2 weeks later, they are grumpy, agitated, and the weight isnt coming off as fast as they want. They step on the scales and they actually gained 2 pounds overnight despite having a good diet day. Now they are depressed, and no longer motivated to continue the "diet" since it aint working. You just cant rely on motivation long term.
Just my opinion, but I think what is needed is determination and commitment and the setting of consistent habits. Set goals and then affirm to yourself that you WILL achieve this goal. Leave no room for excuses in your mind. Decide what you want, and start taking action to become that person or achieve that goal. Motivation and will-power be darned. It is about creating yourself, and that falls under Self-Control which is the ability to exert control over one's actions. You are going to fall down, but if you are determined, you get back up. Bottom line, You are creating yourself, and you must create the person inside that eats and exercises and lives consistently like a person you desire to become. And for that, you need more than motivation, you need determination and commitment.

Hey girl, I'm sure you're motivated, what you want is self discipline Which is easier to fall back on than will power. Just like KeepRunning... said above me! I'm happy to befriend you and we can help each other out!0

Hey don't listen to that guy ^. He's wrong. You do need motivation. It might include commitment, dedication etc. but having other people help motivate you is a really powerful thing. I'll add you and we can support each other2

I think determination, commitment and motivation pretty much go hand in hand. So set some goals, and try to work towards it. For me it's getting back to running.0

For me, it took doing it long enough to make it all habits. So now the question is "why am I NOT getting up to run on Tuesday morning....?" MFP gets easier after a couple of months, and becomes a habit. Same with the exercises. Just make sure you're trying to have fun and make it something you can sustain for years. For me, 10% of my weight fell off almost immediately. When it came time to be more aggressive, the habits were ingrained, so I turned 20 mins of walking into 20 mins of running. I work better with small main meals, and a few sensible snacks, so now a 1030 snack is part of the routine, and it's easier to say no to the doughnut in the breakroom.
Good luck; you can do this!0 -
Feel free to add me, we can support each other until we meet our goal.0
