Hi, I'm a 22 y/o male who just started dieting to lose weight (started at 220 lb)
I went to a nutritionist who gave me a low calorie diet (1350 daily he said) (3 main, 2 small meals). And after 8 days I've lost 10lb (water weight I assume)
It includes lean chicken, fish, panela cheese, almonds, nuts, non sugar jelly, lots of greens and as carbohydrates 2 portions of fruit, 1.5 tomatoes and 4 corn tortillas through the day and lots of water, just to give you an idea (30min physical activity recommended, which I don't do)
I have an appointment with the nutritionist later this week, and before I went there I just wanted to hear some opinions about his approach to help me lose weight, maybe some advice or warnings I should look into to better know what to ask him then.
My questions would be if you think these calories are ok, if I should be doing the physical activity (and which one would you recommend), how to measure my progress (weight, measuring belly circumference, etc), how to avoid losing muscle mass and how to shift from losing water weight to losing fat.
Anything helps, thanks.
I can post the full diet if it helps
edit: I haven't felt tired, hangry, dizzy, with less energy or anything abnormal, I've followed the diet religiously. Everything feels the same

That's very low calorie - recommended minimum for a male is 1500 - someone your age and size could probably eat more than that and lose. Does this nutritionist have any qualifications or training? I wouldn't recommend extra physical activity on such a low calorie diet.3

My advise is to see a dietitian rather than a nutritionist. Any nutritionist that recommends only 1350 calories a day for a 22 year old male needs to be questioned. Unless you are under doctor supervision and need to lose a lot of weight quickly you should not be eating that low. Not only would you be losing fat but also muscle.
I'd simply put your figures in here and eat what the app gives you. Some cardio and strength training is advisable. You can lose weight without it but it is a great way to gain fitness and preserve muscle mass.1 -
Wow.
1350 Calories appears to low for a male.
From my nursing training, I believe it's 1500 calories at the very minimum for a male for weight loss.
While I understand a nutritionist has designed your diet, the foods allowable appears limited, unless his idea is expand on it in coming weeks.
Are you on a Low Carb diet?
By scanning what you have provided, it appears you are. These diets offer fast and often dramatic results, but are not always sustainable.
Corn tortillas every day will become tedious. Where are the whole grains? Cereals? Eggs? Beef? Legumes? Dairy?
Eating all manner of vegetables ( the colours of the rainbow) offer a full range of vitamins and minerals.
With such limited nutrition source and caloric intake, rigorous exercise may be ill advised as you may not have the energy to sustain it.
I would consult your nutritionist regard expanding your menu plan and caloric intake. It is of course up to you. If you feel well and are happy to consume the meals advised than do what suits you.
It is always important to remember- "Is it sustainable"?
After all. This is a marathon. Not a sprint!

Generally, 1350 would be way too low for a male. Variety is good for nutrition, and thus health, and to avoid boredom, and as hunger and boredom are the two biggest factors in ruining a weightloss project, and you are losing weight to become healthier, I can't really say I think the nutritionist's advice is useful.
It's hard to give any more specific advice without knowing why you are seeing him.
But no, I think the calories are set too low, you should exericise if you want to, I recommend exercise you'll actually be doing, consistently, and weighing yourself daily, and patience.1 -
This is good if you are like 140 lbs and 4ft 6 in height1

How do some of these people (the nutritionist) do this?
