Why do people that quit thier jobs try to take you with them?

I don't know if this has only been my experience. But I can't understand why when some of my former & soon to be former coworkers decide to quit that they feel the need to look at me & other coworkers to ask what we are going to do next. Um, our job? It's like they assume that because they no longer like their job & are miserable that everyone else must be too. Then they spend their last 2 weeks talking about how they are too good for said job & blah, blah, blah. If you are unhappy then you are free to go find something else that you enjoy. But don't make a show of it, don't try to drag other people with you, just go.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Because the most recent person to put in their 2 weeks is the most miserable, negative person. Sorry but I won't be sad to see them go.

Well, I have a friend. Upper Level Manager at a company that wasn't treating him so well. So, he left and got a job with a direct competitor and then proceeded to pull key people from his old firm to his new firm. Revenge was his motive.3

Insecurity, they are scared they made a bad choice. If youfollow it validates their choice.1

Once upon a time a certain software guy was recruited from my employer to another far, far, away. And the people (at my employer) rejoiced. A couple of weeks later a recruiter for that employer far, far, away cold called me and attempted to spark my interest in being recruited to that employer, saying that I had been recommended by a certain software guy.
Thank you. No.0 -
Hasn't been my experience that people were trying to take others with them or saying bad things about the job they were leaving.
Apparently the last job I left I was excessively happy and perky my last few days. I didn't really talk about my new job but I was very excited. I got some comments.0 -

Sometimes it isn't even at all, concerning liking someone and/or their good work, at times it might even; just be about familiarity! For instance I rarely see anyone that I know when I go somewhere, so when I do my instinct's to become overjoyed that I recognize someone; even if it's someone that I despise!0 -
I only have experience from one job and literally everyone in my department would have been happy to have me try to get them on at my new job. It was a horrible work environment.0

I thought it was "what" do they take with them.
The answer is binder clips.0 -
Why does anyone want binder clips?

I used to work for a CPA firm (where life tends to be pretty miserable) and one of the managers I worked for frequently left for a better position in private industry. Before she left she told me that she thought there would be a place for me there as well if I was so inclined and that she'd love to have me on her team.
I thought about it but ultimately declined and took another position that wasn't as financially lucrative, but it was fewer hours and no travel which was important to me as my wife was soon to give birth to my first boy.
I would have loved to continue working for her, but the hours were going to remain long...but she's a really fantastic person and manager. We're still friends all these years later...she's coming over in a couple weeks for my birthday party...

No sorry maybe I worded it wrong. Not take them as in to their new job. Just trying to encourage them to quit & get a different job as well.0

A lot of people assume that the issues they're facing are pervasive and other people are being affected too.1

They have one foot out the door to their new found freedom/new job and ask "how can you still want to work here?". I think people may think in general you feel the same way and most don't understand you just can't just up and leave your job because they did.

Yes exactly how I feel. Like I enjoy my job & have no issues. I also have a child to support, mortgage to pay & need the benefits my job provides. So I'm not going anywhere, sorry if you are.0 -
