Protein allowance

Hi - I've been using this App for almost 2 months and love it but have been struggling with the protein. I have been a vegetarian for decades yet I CONSTANTLY am over my alloted 56 grams of protein per day. I never thought I'd be over in that regard but such is the case. Is there any harm in going over? I eat things like egg white protein smoothies, egg beaters, beans, PB2, some tofu products, etc. and seem to end up with more than enough protein.

    no- that 56 grams is a minimum, in my eyes- going over is GREAT!

    You shouldn't be concerned with getting extra protein. In my opinion, MFP has too low of a percentage of it's macro nutrients for protein.

    its ok to go over protein :) the more the merrier

    Protein, iron, potassium...all okay to go over! As you get closer to your GW, examine your macros: carbs, fat, and protein. Do some research to see what mix of macros is best for you. (for example, I have a goal of 50%carbs, 25% fat, 25% protein...many of my friends have 40/30/30) then you will want to stay as close to those ratios as possible to fuel your specific lifestyle (I have heard it also helps some people break through the plateau's that come closer to GW)

    I'm under doctor's orders to eat 50g protein every 3 hrs, which works out to 350g a day. Been doing that for months and no bad side effects yet. So I definitely wouldn't worry about going over 56! :-) It's bad if you don't get enough protein, but most people don't need to worry about eating too much.

    I think the carb allowance is a little high (unless you're eating the refined carbs that will generate cravings) and the protein allowance is too low. I have been going over the protein allowance by 50-75% and not coming close to the carb allowance.
