Anti inflammatory

Feeling awful. Having a lupus flare has put me out of commission the past few weeks . Trying to get back on track. Doctor has recommended an anti inflammatory diet. Has any one done this type of diet or have suggestions one ways to manage massive swelling and extreme pain naturally?

The only way I know of without using medication is severely lowering your carb intake. Like, keto levels. Talk to your doctor and see what he or she says. Also google keto and lupus. Keto is used to manage many autoimmune issues.0

Did your doctor give you guidelines? There are plenty of anti inflammatory diets: Autoimmune Protocol, Wahl's Protocol, Whole 30, etc. Ask him/her to clarify. See if you can be referred to a dietitian for guidance.3

Keto is known to be helpful for lyme disease. I know it is less, but I find my RA is helped a lot by cutting sugar, flour, and basically all bread/pasta etc. I get my carbs from non starchy veggies and can say it makes a HUGE difference.0

I don't follow a formal diet. I have a book that lists foods and rates them. I just keep eating foods that are supposed to make you feel better until there is no room left for the inflammatory foods.0

If you decrease your carbs, you get to increase your fats.
For example, coconut oil is said to have anti-inflammatory properties.3 -
I've done Whole 30 which addresses inflammation. It's not the easiest long term but maybe after the first 30 days you could introduce foods following their protocol and see what foods bother you and then just avoid those? Also for anti inflammatory - tumeric is supposed to help a lot. You can take capsules or if you use the fresh stuff you can make drinks with it. I did up a tumeric gingle ale and also tumeric kombucha and it helped a lot for my inflammation. Mind you, I do not have a serious condition as you do so I'm not sure how helpful it would be but it certainly wouldn't hurt.2

The anti inflammatory foods I have found to help with my lupus include flaxseed, oily fish, and turmeric. Green tea is supposed to be anti inflammatory but I can't tolerate caffeine during flares, it makes my heart race. Keto would not be ideal for me, since most meat seems to be inflammatory for me, but I have found that reducing quick carbs such as added sugars and breads helps. I put ground flaxseed in smoothies, it really seems to work for me.
I hope you get a break from your flare soon. I always joke like lupus is just a little like being lightly set on fire. It can be very frustrating to feel so sick without any visible symptoms.3 -
When I think "anti-inflammatory" I think Advil. It's great for the occasional headache but it is hardly something to make a diet.3

I have an auto immune disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (my body is killing my thyroid). In Jan 2017 I had a 1.5cm nodule (lump) on my thyroid that was hindering my ability to swallow, I was so swollen I could only wear sweats, yoga pants and flip flops and I had gained 50 lbs over the past year. I went Paleo after being diagnosed ( I declined thyroid medication) and now, 8 months later, I'm in remission, my nodule is GONE, I've drop 2 pants sizes and 30lbs without taking a single dose of medication. I healed myself with food. My doctors are in shock. Starting on The Autoimmune Protocol (book is on Amazon) then transitioning to less restrictive Paleo is the best thing I could have done for my health and I haven't had this much energy since I can't remember when. Wishing you a speedy recovery!3
