I have been watching my calorie intake and exercising at least 4 times a week (most of the weeks it has been 6 times), and I am GAINING weight!! The first week I lost 3.8 pounds but then I gained 1.4, .2 and this week again .2!
Anyone got any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

I drink my water most days.
For workout, I run and do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred level 3.

Help please! I am at the point where I just want to quit!

You are eating your exercise calories?
  • Me too! And I am eating my excercise calories as when I don't, I'm told my body will go into starvation and my metabolic rate will reduce. I may have an under active thyroid, but I'm thinking of trying NOT to eat my exercise calories and see if that works. I work out 5 times a week at the gym so it may be muscle I'm putting on?

I don't eat my exercise calories, I never eat over 1450 calories, period, it doesn't matter if I climbed Mount Everest, some days I burn 1200 calories or more, but i'm not hungry, my body dictates wether I eat or not, and it's never a good thing to eat if you are not hungry, any doctor willl tell you this, any trainer will tell you this, if your hungry eat those calories, if you're not don't, you could be gaining muscle mass, which mean the scales won't budge, or in my case it goes up, but i'm lean and toned, I don't look at the numbers, they'd depressed me, I go by my clothes, a pair of jeans in particular, they're too big nowm yet i'm heavier.....do what works for you, sometimes you need to play around with the numbers and time/when you eat, to figure out what works, but I believe whole heartedly, that if you are not hungry don't eat.

I do not eat my excercise calories either...I eat and stay at 1200-1400 per day....and I watch my sodium intake...If I am ever hungry I will eat my excercise calories but that has yet to happen....
  • DON'T QUIT.. keep pluggin in everything your eating here and don't forget to include oils your cooking with etc so you can really see how many calories your taking in. Sometimes you loose just a little and because your working out your body is changing your fat to muscle so you either gain a pound or 2 or have a stand still. Give it time.. Keep it up and don't give up.... soon you will see the pounds coming off.. another thing to do is measure yourself. If your loosing inches that is better to follow than weight. Know you can do it. You CAN do it. Just be real when you type in what you eat and try to stay below or right on target with your calories. Keep drinking water!! Sounds like your on the right track!!! I know you can do it. Today is a new day. Keep it up...........relax and don't focus on eating all the time. Get your mind busy.. that was one of my biggest things was thinking about food all day. Good luck

how long have you been going at this? because if you're relatively new to this routine it might just be taking your body a little time to adjust. remember: health is the most important factor!
  • Yes I have been eating my exercise calories. Maybe that is my problem.

If you are eating back the calories, I would say it is water retention. I have always ate my calories back, I never gain.

Patience and throw out the scale, it is not your friend. Measure inches.

Of course it is possible, make short term goals, do not look too far into the future. MFP really works if you follow their guidelines.
