Okay so this weekend I really had a shock of the bad side of cheese.....

We were on a road trip to Austin and I packed some healthy snacks as well as some cheese(Sharp Cheddar). Anyways the cooler was COOL as first but its been about 100 Degrees or more lately and the ice eventually melted, SO did the CHEESE!

This is where I was shocked to see how much oil leaked out of the cheese!!!! There was sooo much oil that came out of the cheese it was everywhere in the cooler, but the worst part was how it smelt! not only did it smel gross and made me wanna upheave my lunch but I couldnt believe that that went into my body each time I ate cheese.

Big Reality check for me....next time I think I'll pass.

Was it the orange block stuff? YUCK!

If you stick to less processed cheeses you will have a better experience...
    - Goat (semi-soft)
    - Feta (packed in brine)
    - Fresh Mozzarella

I need to read this every day because I LOVE cheese! That is so gross. Nothing like a bad experience to make you swear off a food.

if you'll get block cheese it won't do that.. it's less processed and had less "fillers" in it.. I LOOOVE cheese and just cannot give it up.. we usually by block organic cheese.. soo yummy!

Good Point - It was the orange sharp cheddar kind. Im sure that other cheese arent as oily but still........It was soooo hard to clean up without some extra strength soap! Blahhhggg chills thinking about it!

Not all cheeses are created equal!! I love cheese and it gets a bad rep all the time! It's good for you in moderation and some cheeses are better for you because they are les processed. Do your homework, spend a little extra money and get some GOOD cheese. You'll enjoy it more and your body will thank you.

Thank you for those suggestions. I have always liked cheese and I heard "white" cheeses are better than the other kind.
I love feta and mozz.. I think i'll try goat next

if it was natural cheese and not processed, that liquid is not oil. it's whey. cheese is made up of two components. curds and whey. (yes miss muffet was eating cheese lol) the curds is the dry and the whey is the liquid. so that "oily" liquid is fat and whey. it is natural, not oil. it is however a good reminded that cheese is quite fatty and should be a limited food. If it was processed cheese however, then yes, that was whatever crap they add to processed cheese.

cheese left out for too long is gross, but personally i kinda like the sweaty cheese that's room temperature. lol

Wow Never thought of that! It wasnt regular kraft block cheese it was the orange sliced Deli cheese individually wrapped. That could very likely be the case.

    Very good reminder....Thank you!
