Hi all,
I've recently joined a boxing gym and am loving it so far. I'm wondering if any of you can tell me how quickly you started seeing results, as well as any other tips for someone just starting out.
The workout is a 6-minute warmup, followed by nine (9) 3-minute rounds of punching combinations and a short period of active rest in-between. The last segment is abs/cool down. It's very intense and fun!
Some background:
I have a lot of body fat and cellulite and I'm looking to lose about 50lbs. as well as tone my body. I'm on week 2 of a 1200 calorie diet (as recommended by MFP) and my exercise goal is to take three (3) 45-minute HIIT boxing classes per week in addition to some walking on my off days. Today will be my 2nd class this week and 3rd time total.
I'm eager to start seeing results in my body (duh). Anyone have/had a similar diet/exercise schedule and can share their experiences? I know "everyone is different," I just want to hear YOUR story!
Thank you,
Sarah

Keep up the boxing classes as they are such a great intense workout. I box twice a week along with my regular running 4 days a week. Our boxing club is a bit different from yours. We go for one hour straight but along with bag work, there's also skipping, burpees, pushups, squats, split jumps, etc... and it's non stop just grabbing water when you have a few seconds. I also have a heavy bag at home and when I can't make a class, I can do the same workout at home. As for noticing results, for me it's hard to tell as I do weights as well as my running. Good luck to you and keep up the boxing.1

weight loss comes from your calorie deficit. so you will lose weight if you are eating less than you're burning.
MFP doesn't 'recommend' a calorie goal, it just does a calculation based on the information you input.
if you're only on 1200 cals then make sure you're eating back exercise cals.3 -
I have done muay thai (kickboxing) for about a year. I only started losing weight once I watched what I ate. Only started doing that cos I want to do a fight...
Nothing better than punching things when you have had a bad day.3 -
I love boxing, that's how I really got into fitness, I went to a boxing gym, and I did boxing, kickboxing and bootcamp classes, I used to go to two classes a night I loved it so much, I was the happiest I ever have been going to that gym. All the frustrations of the day taken out on the punching bag.1

I am a 62 y/o 140lb 5'4" female. Began boxing about 5 months ago and I absolutely LOVE it. I go 2x week - once in a class setting - 1/2 hour of jumping rope/burpees/jumping jacks/pushups etc and 1/2 hour of 3-minute combinations on the bag. I also have an hour of one- on - one training with the coach once a week - sparring, footwork, combinations etc.
Even though I run 5 miles 5x/wk on the treadmill and do some yoga - I find the boxing to be an amazing workout. I have not really measured my progress from boxing in terms of weight loss, but rather in increased strength, stamina, timing, quicker reflexes and improved range of motion. Keep it up!!!

I love Kickboxing!!!!! ❤️ I have been going for nearly 3 months now. In the first 3 weeks while following my calorie goal and eating good I lost 6 pounds and 4 inches in my waist. I have tried gyms and other fitness classes and this is the only thing I have stuck with. Great stress reliever! I have built up stamina and I feel strong. My legs and butt are almost completely cellulite free and the rest of my body is toning. I started with 2x a week at first and then slowly built up to 3-5x a week. Listen to your body and don't over do it. This is an intense workout if you're not used to it. Wrap those writs up tight and have a blast!!!
