Falling Off The Wagon

Am I the only one who feels like they are the only one who "falls off the wagon" from time to time? I had a donut this morning and knew I shouldn't have. I felt bad the whole time I ate it but just kept eating it. Feeling even worse about it now and just feel like I'm the only one who ever does things like this lol Just wondering if I'm the only one who feels like this??? I can be doing so good and then completely blow it a few days later. Does this happen to anyone else? I also feel like I get better and go longer before falling off the wagon the next time, so maybe that's a good thing? I guess we are only human and I'm just soaking in my donut eating guilt.

why would you feel bad eating a donut??? donuts are great!! as long as it is accounted for in your calories - enjoy!20

This happens to me once a week... you just learn to pick back up and keep going. So far, I've lost 20 pounds since late March.
You're allowed to eat stuff like this....14 -
One doughnut? Surely you can fit that into your calories and macros? Why is that 'falling off the wagon'?
Are you planning to never eat a doughnut again?18 -
If you're that distraught over a donut it sounds like you're being way too restrictive. Of course you'll have issues if you try to remove everything delicious and tasty from your life. You can eat yummy things and still lose weight. Eliminating everything you enjoy in an effort to lose weight is a recipe for disaster.16

On or off the Wagon, its not about being perfect, its about being consistent.
There are no bad foods, Donuts have things your body needs. Donuts have fat, protein, carbs, Iron, potassium, calcium from the ingredients used to make the donut. If you want a Donut, just make it fit into your calorie goals for the day or week.
Just remember portion control. Dont have 6 or 12 donuts in a day as that will likely blow any weight loss goals for several days.14 -

I failed at dieting MULTIPLE times because I was constantly restricting myself instead of just making room for the things I wanted to eat.7 -
If you like donuts or other sweets, you should be incorporating that into your diet plan. If it's something you like, why would you deprive yourself of it indefinitely? I'm not saying sit yourself down with a whole box, everything in moderation. The best diet is the one you stick with, so allowing yourself to eat foods you like is a big help. You just need to make sure, at the end of the day, your diet is balanced.3

I had a rita's italian ice just open where I live. Best believe I made room for some of that today, and without going over my calories!4

This is exactly why diets don't work. There is no reason you can't have a donut. The idea is to learn to eat in a way that you don't feel deprived and that you can sustain for the rest of your life. Part of that means fitting in things you enjoy. Personally, I eat more treats now than when I was obese. I also found more treats that fit into my calorie budget and nutritional goals.
I suggest finding more calorie friendly treats you can enjoy often and then occasionally making room for the "real" treats.
Also, you don't have to be perfect for this process to work. You just have to make sensible choices most of the time. If I eat 500 calories under maintainence 6 days a week and 1000 over on 1, I am still at a 2000 calorie deficit for the week. 1 donut didn't mess you up.16 -
I do not fall of the wagon, as much as I allowed myself to fall off the wagon. When I give myself permission I do not feel guilty. Having said that, the only food that I feel truly guilty when I eat it is a hamburger and fries from a restaurant. Trust me I know all about fitting it into my calories and such but I normally talk myself out of it when I think of all the calories and fat and how many other things I can have instead. But if I want a donut, I plan it into my daily food and I make sure I enjoy it. Guilty feelings cancels out the enjoyment of what we are eating.5

I had a donut today, too. It was delicious. You are allowed to enjoy food! **In my experience**If you deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy, you're just setting yourself up for failure.
Keep on keeping on6 -
There is nothing wrong with eating sweets, and you should not feel bad. Let me tell you, I eat either cake, donuts, or pie for breakfast every single day. I have already lost weight, and I feel like dieting is pretty easy because I am not depriving myself.
Just work the sweets into your calorie plan and try to eat well the rest of the day.3 -
I understand. I feel the same. Despite what everyone says, I'm so determined that if I don't control myself I feel like a failure... but I'm seeing slowly that that's the beauty of this app. Keep track and you'll find that you have room to guilt free indulge here and there while still making your goal.2

Honestly, I would not consider one donut falling off the wagon. I understand eating something that wasn't on the plan, and I do it from time to time without any guilt. A few hundred calories are not hard to "rearrange" over the rest of the day and/or next day, if need be. I would call that "an adjustment." "Falling off the wagon" in my book is more like just not caring for a week and not counting anything... for a week or more.
OP, sounds like you are safely in the wagon. Make a little adjustment and carry on. The only thing that makes me a little sad about your post is you said you felt bad all day, even while eating it. If you decide to adjust your plan, you should enjoy it!5 -
as long as it fits in your log it's ok I figure.
I've fallen off the wagon so many times it happens1 -
Girl, A donut is 200 calories. Drink some water and exercise for half an hour.
I fell off the wagon hard last Saturday morning and consumed over 3000 calories before noon. I literally did outrun that bad diet that day and logged a 2 lb loss the next.6 -
I don't do anything with the word die in it.
Is a donut the most nutrient-dense item that you could have ate that day? No, it's not. However, you cannot beat yourself up over the small things. If restricting yourself is that much is going to cause a lot of guilt like you are experiencing right now, you need to adjust your calories to see if you can add a little bit of those items in. While I don't eat those items for my own diagnosed health reasons, there's no need to keep mentally abusing yourself.2 -
I'm planning on working in a donut as an afternoon snack is weekend4
-
Shoot that's nothing, 2 weeks ago I had a melt down. Straight melt down and ate everything from taco Bueno to long john silvers, oh and I got drunk.. but I logged everything I put in my mouth and even my 1.5 pound weight gain from my bad weekend. So I can look back and remember what I did... It just made me work even harder the next two weeks. We are only human... Just get back on the "wagon" and keep going. Long as you keep going your still doing better then everyone sitting on the couch in my opinion?6

I don't think there is a wagon. I don't think it's about never making mistakes or never eating things just because they taste good. I eat doughnuts and ice cream and all kinds of things just because I like them, but the overall quality of my diet is in good shape so it's okay to incorporate yummy things.
I think it's more like taking a long walk down a path; sometimes you're going straight forward, sometimes you take a few steps back, and sometimes you stand still for a little while. As long as your general progress is in the right direction, you're good.4 -
Honestly, looking at your profile picture, you can handle a donut, love. Good luck.4

I got drunk last night - had 2 mojitos, red wine, bitterballen, chicken skewers and quesadilla! It was a GREAT night. No guilt... Today I'm having lots of salad and going for a run - prob tomorrow too... it was worth it, and i always manage to fit in crazy nights - you should too! 1 donut = 1 run... or a light salad dinner... don't sweat the small stuff.2

Glad to know someone has the same weird mindset as me lol but this app/community is pretty amazing. You guys definitely keep me on my toes. I'm proud to say I have lost about 3 lbs since this post. And I probably should have mentioned I was doing low-carb so maybe that's why I felt so bad about it lol thanks to everyone for the responses.1 -
Perfection isn't the answer. Are you seriously planning to live the rest of your life without dessert? Nope! The key is to learn to eat smaller portions of those things less often. I've been there so I get it but I'd have been happier, and skinnier, overcoming that all or nothing attitude sooner. It's not practical and sets you up to fail. One donut isn't blowing diddily squat! Think about all the hard work you've put in to this. A donut doesn't erase it.0

You still have to enjoy the little things in life . Donuts are so delicious , having one is not the end of the world . You should be proud of yourself , I usually eat 3 or 4 at a time lol ..no but seriously if u work it into your cals for the day no big deal . Once you restrict certain foods that you love , makes you want them even more . Moderation is key , and enjoying every bite !1

Yum! I had a donut too. Enjoyed the heck out of it. I try to have sweets everyday within my daily calorie limit. You cannot live life without having what you love. Just balance out everything else in the day. Have a bit more salad and veggies. Why wouldn't you be able to fit donuts into your day?0

I totally get what you're saying. I went to my in-laws house recently and they have a very well stocked snack cupboard. Had multiple cookies, chips, cheesy bread sticks, a fudgsicle, and a LOT of wine. It's hard when you're in the moment. I wasn't hungry, I didn't really enjoy a lot of the foods, and I knew my stomach would be upset all the next day, but I kept eating.
These are the habits I find hardest. Somedays, even though you could name 5 reasons why it's not a good idea, habit takes over. It's one day at a time though. Tomorrow's a new day with new choices and new decisions. I always try hard not to carry yesterday's stuff with me. Just keep trying and do what you can. Don't get too worked up over things you can't undo.3 -
