Slimming world stalling...

Hi...

So I've lost 3 stone 10lbs doing slimming world over the last year, and still have about another 2 stone to go to be classed as a "healthy weight".
I do love slimming world, but over the last couple of months I'm struggling and gaining and losing the same 1lb, despite following the plan totally. Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else? It's like my body doesn't want to go below this weight

Your body has no will of its own, you lose weight when you're in a consistent calorie deficit. Have you set your calorie goal to still have a calorie deficit at your new lower weight? Do you track your calorie intake?

I always hit a plateau on Slimming World at a certain weight. I think it's because you reach maintenance calories at that point.

To fix this on SW, I became obsessive with my food diary, and started having a few less syns (therefore creating a calorie deficit). I have to say though, although I lost 4 stone with SW I do prefer MFP for weight loss as I feel like I'm not pigging out on rice/pasta etc which I seem to have WAY more of than I should!

I also get to eat proper lasagna so I'm happy lol

Try taking a break from SW and calorie counting for a bit

    Xx

The issue I take with slimming world is syns/free foods don't seem to really equate properly to calorie and portion control, I know it works for a lot of people but IMO it's far easier with calorie counting because it's more accurate. Being allowed to have unlimited pasta without counting it would be an horrendous option for me, until December last year, I would be eating about triple the recommended portion of pasta because I had no idea how much I should be eating. Same goes for cheese, these are high calorie items and if you're not accurately logging them, you can easily be eating more than you think.

I would recommend setting yourself to 0.5-1lb per week weight loss in MFP, getting a food scale and logging your calories for a couple of weeks even if you're following the Slimming World guidelines and see how you get on. Whatever program you are using to lose weight you must be eating less than you burn. If over a few months you aren't losing weight, you are eating at maintenance.

Oops not sure what happened to the rest of my reply!

Thanks for your replies, I do watch the amount of carbs I have and try to bulk up on veggies, but maybe I'll start weighing out rice/pasta and see if it makes a difference

I haven't been tracking calories whilst doing slimming world no, I've just re-downloaded mfp to start though, I think I've set it all up properly

I personally think that will help you. Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask if something comes up (many principles are going to be very different from what you're used to, as already mentioned in this thread).

Does swimming work well for the weight loss too?

You may want to start your own thread for this question.

In looking over the recipes I see that they restrict fat and emphasize carbs. Have you thought about using macros and decreasing your sugar and carbs while increasing your protein and healthy fat?

It worked for me - I lost 40 pounds without really trying and I wasn't hungry.

These recipes can be adapted it looks like or you could switch to paleo / modified keto (maintain 100g healthy carbs) and see if that works for you?

See, macros and the like confuse me, I haven't got the patience for it...it all sounds very complicated. SW has "speed foods" which are certain types of fruit and vegetables, and then "free" foods, which is lean meat, pasta rice potatoes, fat free yoghurts, etc, so yes in theory you can eat as much pasta as you like but you'd be better having more of the "speed". I've done it for so long now I'm just use to it and make sure half my plate is veggies before I put anything else on...they don't really do fats though, an avocado is 14 syns and a twirl is 6...think we all know which I'll go for

You sound like me! Do love a bit of Avocado though - it's why I stopped SW lol!

Well, that and the fact that it took me 18 months to lose just over 1 stone when I rejoined. Pfft.

I dont understand SW at all, but maybe its because im a calorie counter and it works so the idea of eating as much as you like of things like pasta and rice baffles me.

I LOVE!!!! pasta and rice and could probably eat 2 days worth of calories in one meal if I let myself lol
