How Much Sodium Will Wash Off?

I may actually need to contact a company about this, but I wondered how much sodium "washes off" if I rinse cheap cuts of ham? We are very limited in our food budget right now, so I am forced to purchase quantity over quality. I bought a large package of fat free ham and the sodium liquid gel stuff it's packed in will rinse right off. Wondering how much sodium we are actually ingesting now. Anyone else do this?

Use the numbers on the package. You can't wash off the salt. Salt isn't a bad thing, though. Do you have medical restrictions on salt?

Don't try and fudge the numbers with little tricks. Log the numbers as they are. Drink an extra glass of water if the sodium bothers you.

Boiling helps get rid of salt but I wouldn't wrack my brain measuring how much escapes. Unless you're a scientist it's impossible to know

No restrictions, but I know I'm getting too much.

Yes! Now that's what I was looking for! A method to reduce the nasty salt. It doesn't taste good and I know it's just TOO much. When I opened the package, there was a "salt slime" so I rinsed it, then got to thinking that maybe I just washed off 50 or 60% of the sodium (not really looking for a scientific answer, per say). Definitely tasted better! Thanks!

Unfortunately, this product also tastes like a salt lick, so I rinsed it. Then I wondered if the sodium in my diet log would be off. I usually work outside a lot and sweat but not these past two weeks, so looking at that sodium intake a bit more.

It's not a bad idea to rinse it but there's no way of knowing exactly how much comes off, so I'd just count it normally and not worry about salt levels. Rinsing things like canned beans is a good way to cut salt too.
