How many do you eat a day?
I'm at 1,200 and thinking about upping it to 1,500.
1,200 isn't hard for me to stay under but I don't want to put my body in "starvation" mode.
Losing muscle and not fat is a HUGE concern of mine.
Thoughts?

There's not much to say that hasn't been said already on this topic. If you're working out, then you should be eating more than 1200 calories.
I generally eat about 1200 on non-workout days and closer to 1500 on workout days.0 -

1,200 sounds about a big breakfast for me :P. I'm currently averaging about 4,000 calories a day, sometimes going up to 5,000. The amount of calories you consume should reflect things like your age, weight, metabolism, normal daily activities and amount of exercise you day. I personally do quite some walking during the day just to get from one place to the other, add to that about 3 hours of exercise a day and being 200lbs and the basic caloric needs goes up considerably. Funny thing is this is the amount of calories I've been using to cut fat. I used to be under the belief that to cut fat the best thing to do was to decrease calories as much as possible. Most of the time all that resulted from that was a loss of muscle, slower metabolism, and minimum fat loss. Sure you need to burn more calories than you consume to get rid of the fat, but your body won't allow you to get rid of its energy supply if its being starved.0

just thought i should let you know that starvation mode is a myth. when you don't eat enough you will have muscle AND fat loss. When there is no more fat for the body to use THEN it will start using muscle.0
