Started off last year at 96.7kg/213lb now down to 78.1kg/173lb but I feel fatter than ever. It's like the more weight I lose, the fatter I feel/see myself.
Does anyone else feel this way?
What is going on here?
How have you overcome it?

Are you tracking your inches lost? I used to feel fat even when I saw the numbers on the scale go down, but once I actually saw the inches disappearing that's when I truly stopped feeling fat.3

Its easy to lose weight but not easy to accept yourself or love yourself.4

I feel the same. People have said to me to take photos so I can see the difference. Also, when we lose weight, we are our biggest critics..so now you're seeing more flaws in yourself because you're making progress. Trust me, I know how it feels and I have recently taken a photo to see if it improves how I feel about myself. xx2

It's something a lot of people experience. I've never had much weight to lose but when I was developing an eating disorder I often thought the same thing. It wasn't until I weighed in the low 80s that i finally saw someone thin in the mirror (and I was always thin...it's the disorder distorting one's body image that's to blame). So I'm not saying you're developing ED tendencies just that there is often a disconnect between what we see and the reality. i don't think you can "Fix it" in any concrete way--just try to love yourself. Positive affirmations help--put on an old pair of jeans and look in the mirror. Look at the difference--physically. It might help a bit to realize that it's in your head. :flowerforyou:2

Your body could be becoming looser as you lose weight. Maybe you just feel jigglier because you're not as swollen?1

Welcome to my world. You know my loss & my current weight... yet I feel like I've lost nothing on some days. I'm still fat in the head.0

You know, I felt that would happen to me, SO when I started my journey 2 years ago, I DIDN'T get new clothes as I lost....I still wear the same clothes and I'm constantly reminded of my success...I can now drop my jeans without unbuttoning...and my watch is so loose it keeps going round and round my wrist...I have lost a total of 33 lbs (not all shown in my ticker)...my original thought was to WEAR OUT my clothes before replacing them, but I got this bonus!!!!0

Start working on loving yourself regardless of the way you look. Being beautiful is not about how much fat we do or don't have. It's not about how flat or bumpy our bellies are, its about how we live and interact with the world.2

Yeap, I posted a topic like this a while back. I'm definitely smaller but I still feel really insecure about how I look 90% of the time. I went from being "overweight" to "normal" and I've dropped dress sizes. I KNOW I'm wearing smaller sizes, but I look in the mirror and see the same silhouette I saw back in April. I've been lifting weights, so I've changed my body comp a little bit, especially in my limbs, but it makes little difference on "bad days".
I think it's because we're a lot more aware of how our bodies are looking because we're putting so much work in.
Oh, and it doesn't help that my boyfriend is currently living overseas and I have little to no affirmations that I'm actually attractive, so my body-confidence is already pretty low to begin with...1 -
When I was in my 20's, I lost almost a hundred pounds and the closer I got to my goal weight, the more self-critical I was. When I was at my high weight of 200+ pounds, I was so far from perfection at that point, that nitpicking about one or two features seemed dumb. I avoided mirrors, and pretended my body didn't belong to me. But when I lost weight and was an ideal BMI, the smaller imperfections stood out more to me. Plus, it was clear to me that a normal weight did not necessarily equal a hot body. All that was theoretical when I was obese, so I could dream that all I needed to do was lose weight and my body would look like a runway model's. NOT.
Edit: This experience is akin to painting a single wall. You may not have even noticed the other walls in the room looked so bad until you see a perfectly painted wall in contrast.5 -
I remember feeling that way and asking why? It passes, I dont feel that way anymore. It is a good idea to take your measurements as that gives a massive boost. But I believe it is our brain catching up with our bodily changes x1

I can feel that way sometimes. I didn't pay attention to my body or food. It wasn't that bad - I was never that overweight - but I had drifted up a lot over the years.
Now I've lost most of the weight I gained and am going for more. In my mind I know I'm in thinner. Heck, in the MIRROR I know I'm thinner.
But I've upped my standards and am harder on myself now so I see all the extra fat I need to lose.
It's also true that my fat is flabbier because there's a lot of space where it used to be - like after you have a baby. My muscles haven't quite caught up to the weight loss.1 -
I think ...and i don't expect anyone else to follow if they don't want to...as we bring our bodies back into the relm of good health, we need to bring our minds, heart and souls too.
Too often larger ppl, of any degree, deal with opinions of others (that they just can't seem to keep to themselves), or media projections, or whatever influences us. It's "easier" to hear the same negative voices over and over than to hear the compliments and encouragement where there was none before.
Part of my "whole body" approach is to go looking for those compliments and encouraging voices. trying to "reprogram" those voices in my mind. Keep looking in the mirror...Tell yourself...hey! wow...thaats me, the new me...the real me that was buried before. read inspirations quotes, find whatever it takes.
I know this sounds mushy and "guruish" lol but sometimes, 'brainwashing' can be a good thing.0 -
For me, I tend to lose the weight in the areas that aren't my biggest issues, like my neck, colar bone, waist etc. I am very pear shaped and need to lose it mostly in the hips and thighs. Since I lose the weight in these other sections, I find my "big" issues become even bigger even when they aren't. Not sure what your body is like but hopefully once everything starts to even out you will stop feeling this way.
Keep up the great work.

I don't feel fatter, but I am more self critical. Before, I would just ignore it all! Now, I see the imperfections. I think this is a good thing and will continue to ake me work hard to attain my goal. Im smaller than I was before, but now my flabby stomach bothers me. It didn't bother me 25 pounds ago because I chose to ignore it!1

Glad I'm not the only one. Taking measurements might help. Will try. Thanks!!0

Yep. Still look and feel fat. I know I've lost 25 lbs but I don't see it.0
