Anyone been on an "adventure vacation"? I see them online that are hiking, cycling, kayaking, etc, either separately or in combination. I'm very excited to do something like that, but don't know anyone who's ever done it, and would like some advice. Wacha got for me?

I spent three weeks in Belize - most of it was hiking in the rainforest (Jaguar Preserve), kayaking, tubing in a cave, taking boats to see wild monkeys... We had a wonderful hotel that set us up with this guide..he was Mayan and very knowledgable about the country and the flora and fauna. Was a fabulous time. It was the perfect mix of incredible gourmet food and hospitality and adventure. Where were you thinking of going?
  • I've had plenty of those, lol! I'm looking for planned "excitement" for a change!
  • I'm overwhelmed by the selection I've found online, and I can't think of anyplace in the world I wouldn't want to go, so I guess the only limiting factor is money. My first thought was Peru, but after looking a little, I got scared at how strenuous the trips I found looked. Maybe I should stay domestic for the first one. The idea of biking appeals to me... I live in the SE and have seen lots of it, so maybe the northwest?

I live in the Pacific Northwest - there are tons of things to do here. You can do vacations cheaply if that's a factor - I will say that Belize was not as inexpensive as one would think. We were spending around $200 a day for food and entertainment - not including our hotel or transportation, etc. What about Costa Rica? it's a safe place to go and fairly popular. You could do some of the inland things around Lake Arenal and also explore the coast. I guess I would start with a budget and see what you can get for the money.
  • You're the second person that recommended Costa Rica to me, hmmm...
