My 180 day Journey - For inspration :)

I have a full, in-depth story of my journey...but wanted to share the highlights of what I was able to accomplish through using MFP for my food/macro tracking. Before I started the fitness journey, I established a foundation of strength spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. I knew I needed that foundation if I wanted this physical component to be a lifelong shift!

I used a couple of other tools (one synced, the other did not), but MFP was an integral part of continual accountability to my food goals.

I researched online and discovered what worked for my genetics. Then I lived and breathed within that threshold for the entire 180 days...no cheat meals...no deviation...just an unwavering commitment to meet my macro goals each day. I began integrating fitness components at specific points and chose to only weigh in every 45 days.

(This was me...last year... just living with a whole lot going on and unable to really muster up a genuine smile)

(Shortly before Day 1...reclaiming who I was spiritually, mentally, and emotionally first really helped me on this journey... as you can see, the smile is much more genuine and effortless).

Here are my results from each weigh-in:

FYI, I'm 37 years old and 6ft tall

Day 1 - 280.8 lbs... size 46 pants.
Day 45 - 257 lbs... size 42 pants
Day 90 - 237 lbs... size 38 pants
Day 135 - 215 lbs... size 36 pants
Day 180 - 195.4 lbs...size 32 pants

At Day 90, I started integrating strength training. So, I added muscle during the weight loss...which was beneficial to increasing daily baseline for calorie burn. My goal wasn't to add a lot of muscle, but be fit and healthy...with proportion.

I've read success stories along the way, and loved seeing the transformations. As you can see... my transformation was healthy and significant. I lost 14" at the waist alone, and 85.4 lbs in 180 days. I've reclaimed my fitness and am back in the jeans size I wore in High School.

It's been a wonderful journey and I wanted to share with the MFP community!

(I also have a side-by-side video of me rotating at day 1 and day 180. Here are a few screenshots)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone!

    @orangegato

For my purposes, I didn't focus on the calorie intake as much as the macro split (ratio of Protein to Fat to Carbs). I had a very specific split that seemed to work for my genetics. The consistency in hitting those goals led to the consistency in fat/weight loss. Even so, while I didn't set a calorie goal, I don't believe I ever exceeded 1500 calories/day.

At day 120, to ensure that I didn't plateau, I revised my macro split...and intentionally put a cap on my calorie intake. By that time, my body had learned to pull energy from fat instead of carbs (to clarify I was not following a Keto diet, though). So, I shifted some of the fat and carb ratios to protein and I got stronger while the weight kept dropping.

I still track my intake, but I reached my goal and now my focus is to stabilize at 195ish. Interestingly enough, since I'm training for triathlons, my body is like a furnace and I'm still losing...but I've increased my daily calorie goal and adjusted the macro split to maintain. I'm still tweaking the intake to understand how to get the most out of my workouts for endurance training...but I enjoy the fine tuning experiments.

Blessings to everyone who stopped in and commented! I appreciate all of you! :)

Awesome results and I am 51yo 5'10" 220lbs and would like to get down to 180lbs and 170lbs would be amazing as I have not weight 170 since well many moons ago. ;-) I had a bit of a setback August/September when I passed out and broke my face, teeth and had a concussion. Oct. 1st i said time to get back on the horse/wagon and I have been hitting the gym 5-6 times a week and watching what I am eating. I have had a fitbit and have been using the fitbit app to track my foods. I just joined MFP and will use it to track my foods as I like it better. They both sync to each other which means you have to use just ONE to track things or it will double it up when syncing.

My goal starting Nov. 1st is to step up my workouts in the gym and continue to log my foods. Watch my progress and adjust where needed. When I see guys close to what I look like it is inspirational to say I can look like that.

It does not look like you have much loose skin around your waist and my measurement is about 46" as well.
