Why did you switch to Keto?

more and more i see people doing keto and following their macros.

but some have said they switched due to bacterial infections or other health reasons. Some say that it worked for them better to shed the weight.

what is your reason?

and if you came off of it, why did you stop doing keto?

I just began Keto on 9/24/17.

I did an immense amount of research on the Ketogenic diet. I initially started because of all I read about the great results; however, within just a few days I've found that I can eat things that I still love. It has been much easier than I thought to find things that I CAN eat. And in following the keto diet, I have consumed a great deal less in calories per day just by watching my carb consumption, and I'm not starving all day. I have not experienced "keto flu" yet, but I have been drinking water with electrolytes and watching my salt intake, which I read helps.

Really hoping to see the great results that others have experienced!!

Are you thinking of trying it? If so, good luck!

Im right there with you! Added!

I don't have much self control in the carb /sweets department so I wanted to try this where I'm not eating 200+ grams of carbs.

I eat more veggies on keto

I'm also doing it for aesthetic reasons as well even though a simple deficit does the trick...i feel flatter eating less carbs and it keeps me motivated. Keto isn't long term for me though I'm going to hop off it once I reach my goal weight then incorporate more fruits, grains and stuff back into my diet.

  • I will be starting this journey on Sunday. I have two babies now 7 and 5 and I have not been taking care of myself. I have 25 lbs to lose to get to pre-pregnancy. If I am being honest I am doing this for aesthetic reasons, however watching my kids play outside and me just being too tired to play with them is a real problem, they are only little for so long. I have tried the 21 day fix and felt hungry all of the time, I have tried weight watchers and had some success but fell off the wagon. I went to the gym religiously but still ate like crap so no results there. This way of life is intriguing but I am nervous. I don't smoke, do drug or even drink that much, but my addiction is sugar. I am determined to do it, but I worry about the cravings. I also don't want to deprive myself of a sweet treat (the holidays are coming) so I am trying to look into keto friendly desserts. Admittedly I am also worried about the high fat part. I know I am being irrational by thinking what if I am the only one who gains weight by doing this.

I am totally unloading here, haha, but it's nice to have a forum to talk to others and get info. Most of my friends are those skinny minnies who can eat whatever they want and then my husband is great but he has a very labour intensive job and the weight just pours off and he too can eat whatever he wants.

Interesting. One of the reasons I stopped doing it was that I disliked having to worry that the vegetables I ate would cause me to exceed my carb limit. Mine was pretty high (around 60 g total carbs, ideally under 40 g net, and I was usually around 35 g net, 60 g total), but I still had to watch and sometimes eat a bit less veg than I normally would or than I do when I don't try for keto.

I also quit because I wanted summer fruit. I don't find much differences for me between keto and merely eating somewhat low carb, but I might experiment with it again over the summer.

Even apart from the vegetables, I think a lot of foods that make keto hard are pretty good for you and make my own diet better (beans and lentils, some tubers, the occasional whole grains), as well as the carb sources I had some of when keto-ing (the veg, some nuts, some dairy).

I tried but it was extremely boring and especially hard to maintain a different diet with a husband and kids. I love vegetables, fruit and fat but meat is not my favorite. It did not rid me of my auto-immune inflammation, I was even more miserable then ever. I think the keto diet has been totally blown out of proportion. It’s not what promoters say it is. It sells books and that’s it.

When I started just counting my intake accurately I have lost my excess weight. It was so much gloom and doom if you don’t do keto. Bah.

Yeah I have to plan the veggies out but I guess the main factor driving the increase of veggies for me is that I'm looking for fibrous veggies since a single slice of bread would ruin me. I guess I eat more veggies because it's the only carb available haha well that and my almonds

Yeah I've had success doing both. I've actually reached my lowest weight eating fruits, rice, chicken, periodic slices of cake when I was just fitting them into my macros I'm trying this out for a few more weeks then I'll switch it up to something more diverse.

I'm liking the changes I'm seeing now but I know a lot of it is attributed to consistency but still

    I tried it one time.
I lasted about a week. I could never feel satisfied, even when I had eaten a fair amount of calories.
I was trying it for athletic performance reasons. More than a few ultra runners and distance athletes do it and think it helps. But it takes about one month for those benefits to begin to appear, I believe.

We've been eating organic and "clean" foods. . veggies and fruits lol, but my husband has a man crush on Joe Rogan so he suggested we try Keto. One week in and I am really enjoying how I feel and the inches and weight is melting away (3lb this week). I have 53 more pounds to lose and I really think this way of eating will help.
